The profanity Rex Ryan lobbed in the direction of a fan at MetLife Stadium last weekend during a game against the Patriots could come with a hefty price tag.
ESPN reported the league will fine Ryan between $75,000 and $100,000 today for cursing at a fan at halftime of the Jets’ Nov. 13 game with the Patriots. The NFL said the matter was still pending.
Rex deserves whatever he gets on this one. This was a stunning lack of judgment. Being in the NFL means fans taunt you from the stands all the time. It should be something people can block out and ignore. Rex was angry that Mark Sanchez called a timeout without burning enough clock and then that his defense allowed the Pats to go down the field before the end of the half, but that really is not an excuse. The deal at NFL games is simple. Fans can say almost anything. Participants usually have to take it.
