Manish Mehta is reporting via Twitter that the Jets will sign former Bills TE Shawn Nelson on Monday. As I reported earlier in the week, the Jets gave a workout to the 6'5" and 273 pound tight end. He was the fourth-round pick by Buffalo in 2009 and has 20 receptions for 181 yards and a touchdown in 17 games. He was suspended for the first four games of last season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
This may be just to pump him for info on the upcoming game, but he hasn't been with the Bills since last season. As evidence by their number of wins alone, their system has changed at least to the point where I doubt he'll be of very much help. Hopefully it will work out though and this won't just be another Andrew Sandejo to get our hopes up. Let us know what you think in the comments below of this unsurprising move.
Edit: Manish is now reporting that the Jets will sign him to the 53-man roster, as they have 52 active currently. I think they are required to do this, because of how many games he has played in. Still interesting. There's always some confusion on the practice squad, so here's an interesting article I just found that was written over the summer.
