Why Do You Like the Jets?

We did this about a year and a half ago, and it was an interesting way to get to know each other.  Since then there have been a bunch of new members here, so with the bye week, I guess it's a good time to do it again.  Maybe we can do this as a bye week and offseason tradition.

Tell us how you became a Jets fan.  And if you already commented in the first post in May 2010, feel free to remind everybody and/or expand with why you come to GGN.

As for me, I ended up here at Gang Green Nation because most of my family and close friends are not that into football.  Most of them are actually casual fans who will root for either New York team if one of them is winning.  Some of them will wear NFL gear because they like how it looks, without consideration for the team it represents.

That's the case now, and that was the case in 1993 when QB Boomer Esiason joined the team.  I was watching a news program, and they showed him caring for his son, who had cystic fibrosis.  A few days later, as I was flipping through the channels, I saw that the Jets game was on and decided to see if they would win.

And that was pretty much how it started.  I was a casual fan who would leave the game on when I accidentally found it.  By 1996 I was watching each of the 15 losses (and if I remember correctly they were leading late in a bunch of those games).  By the time Boomer went to Arizona, I just had so much emotional investment in Gang Green already that my fandom hasn't wavered.  It has only gotten stronger through the years.

Anyways, that's my story.  And now it's your turn.
