The Raiders asked the Jets permission to speak with secondary coach Dennis Thurman but were turned away according to Cimini.
New Oakland head coach Hue Jackson worked with Thurman and Rex Ryan in Baltimore when he served as quarterbacks coach there in 2008. He was at the time of Ryan's hiring by the Jets my preferred choice as offensive coordinator.
Thurman is an excellent coach. Kerry Rhodes is the only guy who comes to mind who did not improve since Thurman took the job two years ago. With that said, I hope Thurman had no interest in the job. It is in nobody's interest to keep a coach who would be happier somewhere else. It just breeds resentment. Does anybody remember the Mike Heimerdinger saga?
