DE Ropati Pitoitua Out for Season

The defensive lineman will most likely miss the entire 2010 season, according to Jenny Vrentas, via her Twitter account.

Ropati Pitoitua tore his Achilles and is likely done for the year, Rex Ryan said.

Brian Bassett over at The Jets Blog gave a rundown on Pitoitua in his roster countdown just a month ago:

Pitoitua played in eight games for the Jets in 2009, but didn’t do much in the way of stats. Pitoitua was an undrafted player out of college, and while he might make a fine run stopper, his ability to russ the passer is limited, and there have been some knocks against his ability to use his leverage more effectively on smaller targets, though to be fair he is praised for his footwork and pad-level.

As Dave Wyatt mentioned, it really is great to see Gholston stepping up at DE, as our depth up there takes a hit with this injury.
