Jets Waive Simi Toeaina

A rookie free agent will not be joining the Jets in camp according to Manish Mehta.

It's not exactly earth-shattering news, but the Jets made a transaction today by waiving defensive tackle Simi Toeaina. He played 21 games in four seasons at the University of Oregon before the Jets invited the undrafted rookie free agent to minicamp.

Training camp is right around the corner. Rookies report July 29 and will work out at the team's Florham Park, NJ, training facility before heading up to Cortland. Veterans report Aug. 1 for Rex Ryan's second training camp.

It appears this was a roster clearing move for a certain 39-year-old left-handed quarterback, who can't be signed until July 22.

Toeaina seems like camp fodder so that's not really big news.

It seemed like the roster spot for Brunell was going to come from the team cutting ties with Kellen Clemens. You would think the team has enough evidence to know whether Kellen is their guy for the third quarterback spot, but Mehta knows more than I do so I'll take his word for it.
