Gang Green Nation Community Mock Draft Pick #7

Our great reader chrebetsthebet is on the clock for the Cleveland Browns, coached by our old friend Eric Mangini.

With the seventh pick in the Gang Green Nation Community Mock Draft, chrebetsthebet picks for the Cleveland Browns...

Joe Haden

The Browns offense and defense need a lot of work. With Clausen and Bradford off the board, we'll turn to defense. The Browns ranked 29th in pass defense, allowing 244.7 yds./gm , allowing 22 TD’s through the air. Eric Mangini was all over Darrelle Revis’s talent so he will no doubt be making his case for CB Joe Haden. Eventhough he ran a slow 40 time(4.6) at the combine, he ran a 4.44 at his pro day and is still seen by many to be a potential shutdown corner. Cleveland operates out of a 3-4 base D, which means they will pay a lot of man coverage. You need a corner with exceptional coverage skills. Brandon McDonald cannot fill that need

My reaction:

I don't really have much to add. The Browns have a ton of gaping holes. As chrebetsthebet notes, cornerback is one of them. Adding the best corner in the Draft and a potential number one guy at that could help the Browns solidify the position for a long time.

David's reaction:

Cleveland actually have so many holes to fill, they could go any which way with this selection. Some are suggesting that they could take Dez Bryant as their offence was pretty anemic last season or a outside linebacker/DE like Jason Pierre-Paul. However Paul worries me with his lack of experience. Haden is a top flight player. He has the potential to lock down one side of the field as well as being physical against the run.

I would find it hard to select the Browns pick because there are so many ways you can go with it. However I can't really argue with you taking a player at an area of need. I personally had them either taking Haden or Bryant, because they need some offensive weapons for sure. I would be happy as a Browns fan if Haden was the way to go here. He is a fun guy so I'm not sure how he would mesh with Mangini, but he comes to work. Good selection.

There you have it, GGN. Did chrebetsthebet make a sound pick?
