I've tried to go easy on Mike Florio since our jersey bet. It showed he has some pretty thick skin and a sense of humor. He didn't have to do it, and we haven't been very nice to him in the past so I couldn't have blamed him.
Of course, there is a reason we haven't been very nice to him. It's because of stuff like he wrote today, accusing the Jets of ordering Sal Alosi to trip Nolan Carroll.
But look at the video and/or the still image. Alosi appears to be the first man in phalanx of six sweat-suited soldiers who were lined up like soccer players bracing for a kick.
If Alosi truly opted to throw his knee into the path of Dolphins gunner Nolan Carroll on his own, it possibly didn’t happen because Alosi caught a wild hair but because Alosi and others had been coached by someone to provide an impediment to the gunner. And that makes whoever decided to put Alosi and others in that way partially responsible for Alosi’s apparent decision to be more active than passive in impeding Carroll’s progress.
For now, we’re not saying whether anyone is or should be responsible beyond Alosi. But we think that the league should look into whether the Jets routinely deploy the Alosi alignment.
Let's just ignore that these "soliders" were not lined up on the field of play, which is where action usually takes place. This is nice work, making an outlandish accusation without even a bit of evidence, but then the disclaimer "we're not saying anyone is or should be responsible beyond Alosi," to take away any heat in case this does not turn out to be right. I could have sworn he's opposed to people doing stuff like that.
This would kind of be like me saying, "Florio knows people in the NFL. Maybe he's friends with Alosi, doesn't like Carroll, and put Alosi up to something. I'm not saying Florio is responsible for this, but I think the NFL should investigate a potential Florio-Alosi-Carroll connection."
Remember this accusation the next time Florio makes fun of the notion he's anti-Jets. He's a nice guy from my dealings with him, but Woody Johnson must have revoked his parking pass or something.
