Bills Ask Permission To Speak With Brian Schottenheimer

According to Bob Glauber of Newsday, the Bills have officially asked the Jets for permission to speak with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Although no date has been set, Rex has said on numerous occasions including post Bengals, that he expects he will have to find a new coordinator to run the offense in 2010.

A league source tells me the Bills have requested permission to speak to Jets OC Brian Schottenheimer about their head coaching vacancy.

No timetable for an interview in Buffalo with Brian Schottenheimer. Might not happen this wk. Rex believes Schott. will get hc job in 2010.

I hope that it doesn't happen this week, we are after all preparing for a play-off game. Brian has recently stressed that unlike years previous he is not necessarily looking for a head coaching job and he is very happy working with this coaching staff in New York.

"The last couple years, I’ve had some opportunities, and was very interested," said Schottenheimer, who has been named as a possible candidate for the Bills vacancy. "And for the first time in a real long time, I’m really happy. I love it here; I love working for coach Ryan. I hope I’m here for a long time."

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Brian turns down an offer from the Buffalo Bills

"It’s all about timing," Schottenheimer said. "You want to be in the right spot and I feel like, right now, I’m in a great spot ... I made the decision to come back last year not knowing what this year would hold working for Rex. It hasn’t been perfect, but it’s been pretty (darn) close."

I think he will interview with the Bills, but I'm not so sure he will be leaving any time soon. I remember him removing his name from consideration for the Dolphins head coaching job in the past, and it wouldn't surprise me if he did the same here.

I hope he stays, he has developed a lot of relationships this year, none closer than the one he shares with Mark Sanchez. It's reasonable to think that he would want to see the development through.
