Rex on Danny Woodhead

Rex Ryan discussed why Danny Woodhead made the team as a fourth tailback.

"I think Woodhead earned the right to make this football team," Ryan said. "I don’t know what else he could’ve done. I thought he earned a roster spot, he really did."

While it’s possible he could serve as insurance in case rookie running back Shonn Greene, a third-round pick, continues to be plagued by nagging injuries, Woodhead also might be keeping the seat warm until the Jets pick up a veteran off waivers, or make a trade.

I've heard a few people say they think Woodhead made the team at least in part because Ryan wanted to display how important working hard and producing in camp and preseason are. That's why Danny made it even though there's no real role for him. I think there's a lot of validity to this.
