Alan Faneca Could Miss Entire Preseason

Alan Faneca's broken finger could cost him the entire preseason.

Don't expect to see Jets starting left guard Alan Faneca in a game anytime soon.

Head coach Rex Ryan yesterday revealed that Faneca had surgery on the broken finger on his left hand and will definitely not play in next Monday's preseason game against the Ravens in Baltimore.

Ryan hinted that Faneca might skip the remaining three preseason games.

"He'll be ready to go for the season," Ryan said. "We just want to get him fully healed."

This would be a much bigger deal a year ago, when the offensive line had not played a snap together. These guys have sixteen games under their respective belts and functioned extremely well as a unit last season.

The one thing I will say is the Jets face some pretty intense pass rushes in the remaining preseason games against Baltimore, the Giants, and Philadelphia. Perhaps this means less time for Mark Sanchez. You want to get him game experience so he's more comfortable with the system and his receivers, but you also want him in one piece for the Houston game.
