David Clowney goes over the work he's putting in to get ready for the season on his official blog.
I’m working hard for real right now, getting ready for two-a-days. The last couple of days I’ve done beach workouts with Jamal Lewis, Takeo Spikes and a couple other guys with a trainer down here in Miami.
It’s rough when you do everything in the sand. We do 40-yard sprints, backpedals, 100-yard sprints, reaction drills. Most days I’m working out twice, running in the morning and lifting in the afternoon, then switching it up. As a receiver it’s important to lift a lot with your legs to keep them strong, keep your speed and stamina up late in the game. I also bench to build upper-body strength so when a DB presses you at the line you can get him off.
It reminds me of a story I heard once about the great golfer Gary Player. A fan came up to him and said, "I'd do anything to hit a ball like you." Player said, "No you wouldn't," and went into detail about how he hit golf balls each day until his hands bled and kept going. It's really amazing what these guys do to get themselves into shape. Even on a vacation, they put in this kind of work. It's a 365 day a year job.
