Seems Rex Ryan is impressed with how Jamaal Westerman is performing so far at minicamp. Dave Hutchinson of The Star-Ledger is reporting the transition from lineman to linebacker is coming naturally to the former Rutgers defensive end.
Most interesting to me though, is the mention of Vernon Gholston.
"In fact, in his first four practices at his new position, Westerman has been more impressive and instinctive than 2008 first-round pick Vernon Gholston, who made a similar switch last season. The 6-3, 260-pounder looks at ease dropping back in pass coverage and, of course, he can get after the quarterback." -Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger
This just doesn't bode well for Vernon. Sounds a bit like maybe Vernon's hopes of starting or possibly even staying in a Jets uniform could be fading fast. Hope for his sake he can do some magic on the special teams if he is going to let himself get shown up by Westerman.
