Jets Resign Carroll

The Jets have resigned cornerback and special teams ace Ahmad Carroll

In 2008, his first season with the Jets, Carroll tied for the club lead in special teams tackles with 26. He also has spent time with Green Bay and Jacksonville during his NFL career.

Carroll's return is obviously a good thing for coverage units. Ahmad and Wallace Wright formed a superb tandem. He is worth watching for another reason as well. The former first round pick has never panned out as a cornerback despite 4.2 speed in the 40 yard dash. A year ago, the Ravens traded for a similar player, Fabian Washington. Washington got himself into the first round of the 2005 Draft because of an incredibly fast 40 time but never panned out in Oakland. Rex Ryan's coaching helped Washington refine his cover skills and turned him into an adequate starter in a single year. Perhaps Rex can harness Carroll's natural ability in a similar way.
