Bucs Fire Gruden, Jets Not Interested

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Jon Gruden. Dave Hutchinson says the Jets have no interest.

According to my sources, the Jets are well aware of the firing of Jon Gruden by the Tampa Bay Bucs within the hour, but he's not on their radar.

The Jets are content to await the results of this weekend's playoff games and Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan remains atop their wish list, followed by current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Cardinals assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm is also in the mix but Ryan is the clear favorite.

The Jets have taken their sweet time in deciding on a coach and have spoken with just about every candidate on God's green earth, even those who are not remotely realistic candidates. They even sat down with Jim Harbaugh, a guy coaching at the University of San Diego two years ago. Not to say Gruden should be the first choice, but they should at least investigate an available candidate with a Super Bowl ring.
