Eric Mangini announced in his Wednesday press conference that the team has released outside linebacker Kenwin Cummings. This will clear the roster spot needed to add Jay Feely for Sunday's tilt against New England.
I did not include the rookie in my speculative post over who would be heading out of town to make room for Feely because 3-4 teams rely on linebacker depth. Even though Cummings was unlikely to see the field, having an extra body at the position seemed to make more sense than a seventh wide receiver or a fourth quarterback. It is still tough to envision the rookie from Wingate coming back to bite the Jets. The team can stick him on the practice squad as he should sail through waivers.
That is unless Bill Belichick claims him to try and get some insider information on the Jets for this Sunday's matchup. Never underestimate Belichick's and Eric Mangini's obsession with gaining even the slight edge on the other.
