Eric Mangini said on Friday he is "optimistic" Davis Harris will see the field on Sunday against the 49ers. Mangini did not say how much time Harris could potentially see, but getting him back onto the field for the stretch run would be a huge boost for the Jets.
David Bowens has done a solid job in his place, but Gang Green badly missed Harris last Sunday as Peyton Hillis became the first opponent to run for 100 yards against the Jets in 2008. Although Kris Jenkins was stout at the point of attack, he was not able to shed blocks and make plays in the backfield with his usual ease. Harris' presence on the field would have made that a completely different game. He might have been able to go had the weather been better, but the Jets wisely chose to keep a guy coming off a groin injury off a soggy field.
