Catching Up With Westhoff

Jay Greenberg has a nice writeup on special teams coach Mike Westhoff in the New York Post.

For anybody unaware of the backstory, Westhoff is the best special teams coach in football. His reputation was such that he was one of the few coaches Eric Mangini held over from Herman Edwards' staff. His blocking schemes have turned Chad Morton, Justin Miller, and Leon Washington into elite kick returners. Ironically as a man who made his name offering instruction in the kicking game, cancer in his leg has left him with walking problems that forced his retirement after last year. He felt better before the start of this season, and he is so good that the Jets were quick to give him his old job back in addition to reassigning his replacement.
