Kenrick Ellis Chops Wood with His Bare Hands

After reading this article about Kenrick (cap tip to dvdvill), I gotta say that I'm starting to get excited about his prospects for this season. I think this is going to be the year that we start to see him begin the process of realizing his potential. Rex seems to have a knack for getting the most out of his DLs, and Dunbar seems like he's a heck of a DL coach. I think this is the year where we'll see if there's a there there. And I think we will.

Admittedly, I'm very much partial to Kenrick. I feel like I discovered him in a way, because literally nobody was talking about before I did, and I talked about him A LOT, and then we actually drafted him!! So yeah, he's my draft baby. Thank/Blame me for him being on our team. And I'll tell you what it was that attracted me to him... 94 tackles. How many 6-4, 350lbs guys do you know that can notch those kind of tackle stats? In any league. If you're logging 90+ tackles, you're moving around out there. Those tackle stats tell me that he was not only making plays around his frame, but he was busting it down the line and tracking guys down field. 350lbs guys just don't log linebacker stats. It just is not something that "normal" 350 pounders do. And the tape confirmed that. Not only was he huge, his athleticism was off the charts. But he was raw as hell.

We knew he was going to need some seasoning when he was drafted, and the lockout did him no favors. He didn't get the chance to go through rookie camp, OTAs, mini camp and all that. Then he had his legal situation hanging over him during last off-season and he had to do some time before camp got started. [Brief interruption to pass on a word of advice: do not grab a baseball bat and attack a 350 lbs man that can karate chop wood into tiny splinters and then let said man punch you in the face. He will probably smash it.] However, now all of that is behind him. He's been through a couple of seasons now, and he knows the system, and he knows how he has to prepare for a season. And he finally can go through a normal off-season and train with a singular focus on football.

One of the ongoing issues for Ellis has been his tendency to raise his pad level. In my very amateur opinion, he does this more often when he has two-gap responsibilities. He tries to read the play and he has a natural inclination to come up a bit. And it doesn't help him that he's kind of tall at around 6-4/6-5. So when he raises, he loses all of his power. When he's allowed to attack gaps, he usually blows them up and fires into the backfield. Hopefully, considering all the chatter we've been hearing about getting back to blitzing, we'll see Kenrick playing with more single gap responsibilities and growing into becoming a more disruptive player going forward. I'm also hopeful that the coaching and experience will take effect, and we'll see him playing with more aggressive hands and better play recognition.

Hernadez Home Searched In Murder Case

Aaron Hernandexz had his Mass home searched last night in relation to a recent homicide that took place not far from his home. His friends who were at his home during the search attempted to flee in their vehicle's but stopped by police and searched. Who knows what this really means, but needless to say it doesn't project well on him to be involved in such a case. My only question is, what if this were a Jet? Would there be cameras all over Florham Park? Would page 6 be covered with more circus comparisons? Would annoymous sources mock the Jets for not doing their homework and giving him a huge contract extension? My thoughts are yes, but since its the Patriots its not made to be a big deal, they're given the benefit of the doubt and judgement is not made ASAP. My only point to this post is that the media loves to hate us and lets more important issues slide.

Oh yeah and Pacman Jones of the Bengals punched a woman in the face last week and was arrested, imagine if Cro did that?

Idzik Looking To Trade For A WR?

Take it with a grain of salt, but in a recent live chat I think it was, Rich Cimini said since the WR FA markey it try, Idzik will be looking to deal for one during training camp. Do you think this would be true and what peices to we possibly have to trade? Id almost rather stay pat than trade any talent we actually do have on this roster. Unless he means trading mid round picks next year, which I wouldnt be completely against as long as we got somebody good and young in return. So do you think this could be true, who do you think he is eyeing, and how much would you give up for him?

I honestly cant think of anyone. Im still trying to figure out who it could be.......

I know the latest craze is to make fun of the Jets and their head coach. I promise you this is not the reason for this post. I am looking for Jets fans to say what they think of their head coach.

Hello. I am ak4niner, a die-hard 49er fan. I am going to be posting this over all 32 SBN NFL sites to try to answer a question that I have had for the past year or so.

How do coaches rank among fans?

I’m going to do a little twist on this though. I am not going to set up a ranking system (like I think Harbaugh is #1, blah blah blah), or have you discuss any coaches other than your own. I want to know what the fans of your team think of your coach. After a week or two (timing based off of when I can sneak away to work on this) I am going to look over all 32 fanposts I have made and use the comments to make an “expert” analysis of what fans think of their coach. (Expert meaning I use my 3 synapses to write it, and the monkeys do the editing.)

There are only two things I ask.

One, be honest. I don’t care what direction the posts take us down, but be honest. If you think your coach is the greatest of all time, say so! If you think he doesn’t even deserve to be a dog catcher, then let us know. I am going to try to not let any personal bias creep in when doing the final document.

Two, please only fans of this team comment here. I want to do this ranking based off of each team’s opinion of their own coach. I only ask this so I can save myself time generating the final document. I will filter the comments as necessary.

Almost 20 days, 1 day of almost no action. I unilaterally and democratically decided that it was time for a renewal. And as anyone who knows me could expect, I decided to place my own stamp on the process.

So, let's lay down the flight plan here.

1) Don't be stupid. No politics, no "Excessive" swearing, and no cursing out other people. No porn. No graphic violence/ gore. Period.
2) The mods have ultimate, mind boggling authority. Sp0rtsfan and Smackdad are the TAN mods. If they say drop it, let it go. Same goes for any other mod/editor. Don't argue with them. They have final say, period, and like drama on TV not on GGN.
3) Avoid joking at someone else's expense. Joking is fine, but there is a line. Don't cross it. Don't engage in personal attacks or insults. Don't be the know it all. Have fun, be friendly
4) Arguments are not what the TAN is about. It's about being friendly, getting to know everyone and conversation. Try to see the other person's point of view. Nothing wrong with disagreement, but don't resort to personal attacks and insults. Attacking the reasoning is fine; attacking the person is not.
5) Do not talk ill of others, especially those that are not TANNERS. If somebody you miss hasn't been around, say you miss them, express your concern for them, but do not criticize them for not being around.
7) Enjoy the TAN, enjoy the internet friends you've met. Enjoy the fact you can rant about work, school, etc on GGN. Enjoy the cat pics. Other sites don't have threads like this. And if they do, they're not quite the same exact thing due to our patent-worthy but undefinable brand of uniqueness. ENJOY THE TAN!

FA Wide Receiver. Who's YOUR Guy?

Ok so its becoming obvious that Idzik is strongly looking at bringing in a free agent wide receiver. If you were Idzik or had a vote of who to bring in, who of all the free agent WRs would you bring in? Id prefer not necessarily a veteran guy, but someone who has a couple years under his belt and can help mentor younger receivers. My vote is Brandon Lloyd. I don't see how people say he disappointing last year. He looks like a guy with good hands, and what really impresses me, he lays out for every catch. Hes willing to put himself on the line for every play. If we could bring him in for 1 or 2 years to help bring Geno along, I don't see why not. My 2nd vote would be Austin Collie. He was plagued by injury before, but hes young, athletic, and skilled. So if his health is in check, he would come for cheap, so I don't see why not.

P.S. Im not for blowing money in some unrealistic dream that we'll win the Superbowl, and really, id almost prefer to put in rookies/young guys so they can develop. But for the sake of Geno's development, I think he should at least have experienced and serviceable weapons to work with.

Patriots Declare Fans Not Annoying Enough in Tebow Signing

Although some claim it was a "shock" to see Tim Tebow sign with the New England Patriots, my inside sources in Foxboro paint a different picture. It seems as though going into the season the team had scouted out one glaring weakness it needed to address.

"Our fans just weren't annoying enough last year" said the Foxboro Source "We start from a pretty strong pool, considering all the Boston wannabe tough guys". "Add in the huge amount of bandwagon fans who come back every offseason despite the playoff disappointments along with those Football Fans who just get their news from ESPN."

All you have to do is point out anywhere near a Boston/New England friendly message board that maybe Belichick isn't a genius and you'll have to run the vipers pit of responses, between threats of rape to excuses that the NFL favors the Giants, it's all there. It's been over a decade since the Patriots won the Super Bowl, mostly because Donovan McNabb couldn't keep down his Chunky's Campbell Soup during the 4th Quarter.

Yet there is one fanbase out there that is even more obnoxious, even more bandwagon and will even defend a rapist if he gets the team wins. If you were thinking Pittsburgh Steelers, you were absolutely correct. The staff in Foxboro is well away of this, especially as the Steelers have two Super Bowl wins in the last decade. You can find Steeler fans all across the nation, and their ability to rub the local failing football team's franchise fans nose in it has given them a leg up on the Pats.

"We started looking around at how we could court the most obnoxious fans in the least amount of time and effort. Tebow fans are that missing 5th Column that will bring the Pats back to the promised land. These are people who made Tebow's Jersey one of the top selling jerseys leaguewide for both the Broncos and Jets. This is before they even got to see him play a snap for either team. They paid for billboards and banner planes to advocate starting Tebow. They tortured well educated NFL fans with their lack of game knowledge and the claim that Tebow just knows how to win."

What about worries that the new Tebowmania fans might grate on existing Patriots fans like they did in Denver and New York? "Not a problem" said the source "We put him out there for some play that we don't want Tom Brady to be pummeled on, and it keeps the Tebowheads happy."

"At this moment," said the source "I'm sure the New England Patriots Tebow jersey is on it's way to being a top seller." "That means people will be wearing it all across the nation, annoying local fans even more as these clueless fans suddenly jump on the New England bandwagon." "The Steelers time at top is soon to be over, cause all Tebow fans do is annoy everyone."

When asked about mechanics or anything about Tebow's perceived struggles, the source had this response: "Look, the guy is going to run the ball once a game, maybe get a first down. Then ESPN is going to blow it up as the pivotal play of the game and everyone is going to be back to proclaiming Belichick's genius once again. How could this go wrong?"

New York june 11 Minicamp

Being a Season ticket holder we are allowed to watch this practice. i will do my best to keet upates and non biased reports unlike most beat writers out there. lets hope for a good practice and gooo jets. Why The Braylon Edwards Fanclub Will Never Be Truly Over

For a long time many people here at GGN have been outspoken in saying that Braylon Edwards is done, washed up, and/or capable of making the team. And these statements are most likely true.

However, the reason that Braylon Edwards still has so much support among Jets fans is that he is/was the only consistent offensive playmaker at the height of the Rex Ryan era.

People love playmakers, impact players, guys who make the highlight reel time after time after time. As far as I can tell, Braylon Edwards had more big plays in his games with the Jets than Santonio Holmes has in his.

Braylon Edwards single handedly saved the Jets or kept them alive in several games: Buffalo (2nd) in 2009, Miami (1st) in 2010, Houston in 2010, the Wild Card game against the Colts in 2010, the Divisonal game against the Pats in 2010.

The best highlights of the 2009-2010 seasons not held by Santonio Holmes or Thomas Jones were held by Braylon Edwards. Despite his inconsistency in terms of being open or being an intelligent human being, he was a fun guy to watch.

Complainer: But MachlinT, those days are long gone. Response: The player may be gone, but the memory of those plays is the only thing that allowed guys like Mark Sanchez, Brian Schottenheimer, Mike Tannenbaum and even Rex Ryan to keep their jobs.

It was the initial efforts of Edwards and his playmaking ability that made Sanchez appear serviceable (if only for a few moments). A lot of people in the Jets organization owe their jobs to Edwards and I'm willing to bet that without him the Jets would've much less success in the first 2 years of the Rex Ryan-Mark Sanchez era.

In all honesty, in the last 4 years of watching the Jets, the only offensive player that I looked forward to seeing the ball in his hands was Braylon Edwards. And I have a feeling a lot more people feel the same way even if they wouldn't admit it.

So even if the Edwards we knew and loved is gone forever, he had a much bigger impact for this franchise than he is given credit for. And that is why there are so many people that are still a fan of him, and why so many people will still welcome him back with open arms and open wallets.

There are others in the media, but these are the ones that have recently been harassing the Jets through biased reporting. I know that nothing can be completely unbiased, but these writers shouldn't be so biased.

I know that the people in charge of the Jets can be a bit stubborn, but we have drafted well and have put talented teams on the field. The '09 and 10 Jets teams, especially the 2010 team, were as talented as any team in the NFL. They even had an inconsistent Mark Sanchez at QB and got to 2 straight AFC Championship games. The reason for the decline of the Jets isn't bad management, but the aging of its core players and very bad QB play. If Jason Campbell or a healthy David Garrard were on this team, then we would be a fringe playoff team. You can't fault management for having a bad QB, they are very difficult to find.

I think Rex has done a good job running this team. I don't care about how much he doesn't participate on the offensive side (key word: Offensive) of the team, he is too valuable to let go because of what he offers to the defensive side of the ball. He has been more successful than any coach in Jets not named Weeb Ewbank. Why should he be fired after just 5 seasons with the team? Give him a chance to rebuild. All the media pundits just don't like the fact that he showboats. It isn't the press conferences that affect the short-term outcomes on a team (winning and losing), but strategy, tactics, personnel and the players on the field.

Hello everyone, do you wear a favorite jersey or sit in the same spot on the couch to cheer gang green to victory? Me personally I don't shave on gameday, obviously I need a new one because in all my years watching this team my superstition hasn't helped one bit lol. My friend takes the same roads to Jet Life Stadium for home games which is annoying especially in traffic. Have a good day everyone.

I've been a ny jets fan for a long time and I've seen my share of terrible QB's which is why I can't understand why so many Jets fans have ragged on this kid.Remember Bubby Brister guys? Neil O'Donnell? Boomer? This franchise in my lifetime other than Ken O'Brien and Pennington hasn't exactly had much success at the position which is why I personally have always loved Sanchez. He was toast of the town initially but the last two years have been terrible ,yet he never blames anyone but himself despite the fact that other than trading up to get him the Jets haven't done him any favors offensively since he's been here.Just because the majority look at the league these years as a quick fix solution there's still something to be said for experience. By no means am I giving Mark a pass for the last two years of regression but honestly fellow Jets fans who was he throwing to the last two years? A washed up Mason Plaxico fresh out of prison and the Keystone Kops receiving core from last year. I watched every game and I could count 5 or 6 times a game where Mark would go to his "hot" receiver on a blitz only to see said receiver streak up the field instead of breaking off his route. Everyone cringed at the Ngata hit on RGIII last year but I'd argue that he hit Mark harder in the Raven game from two years ago. I still marvel at the fact that he hasn't missed significant games to injury because he has taken a beating the last two years,I know I'm in the minority but I'm not ready to give up on Mark Sanchez yet he does have the most playoff victories of any Jets QB

Is our defense too tough for our offense?

It's something I was thinking about after reading some comments on another forum and thinking about our practices. It seems as though our QB's struggle a lot to get touchdowns. yes we have practice squad caliber talent at WR, but it seems as though offense has always been a deficiency under Rex's tenure. He doesn't believe in vanilla play-calling for our defense, so it makes things harder in practice. That's great, and should work in theory. However, under real duress, it seems as though Sanchez (and hopefully not Geno) has problems going with his gut, so to speak. The defense is far more simplistic than anything in practice, so he second guesses himself. Much like how a test seems so easy, almost too easy, and you start second guessing yourself to your detriment, the same thing is happening with Sanchez.

Sorry if this doesn't make a lot of sense. Essentially, what I am saying is that maybe our defense should be more vanilla in practice to allow our offense to flourish.

I know everyone's jacked up, but.........

I know all of us are jacked up about what John Idzik is going to do to remake the Jets on the field and in the front office, but we should be taking the long view on this. Talking about playoffs right away and what free agents we could get as pieces to finish the puzzle quickly is counterproductive. Let Idzik do his thing in putting together a younger, faster and more talented roster, just like he was part of in Seattle, which has turned out to be a successful way of doing things.

We are in a rebuilding mode and it can't be done in one or two years. Let's just sit back and let him do his job and i am confident, barring any catastrophe, that he will succeed. I am also a long-suffering Jet fan and want to see success right away, but slow and steady wins the race. i think there are very good days ahead of us.
