The Jets conclude their regular season today in Miami against the Dolphins. Their Playoff hopes are on life support. Any path to the postseason begins with a victory. Then plenty of help is needed. The Jets have put themselves into this position. Frankly, it would probably not be too painful to see this team put out of its misery. With this team's pop gun passing attack, any shelf life in the Playoffs would probably be limited. Who knows, though? The Dolphins are not a very good team so the Jets might well win this game and get the help they need. At the very least, Rex Ryan can start his career with the Jets with three straight winning seasons for what little that is worth, and the Jets can sweep their bitter rivals from South Beach for the first time since 2007.

Meanwhile, in Houston the Texans take the field with nothing to play for as they face a Titans team with everything to play for. The Jets need the struggling Texans to deliver for them like they did in Cincinnati a few weeks back.

The loser of this game might be headed for a long and bitter offseason far earlier than hoped. Being knocked out by the cross stadium rival will probably make it a little extra bitter.

The Eagles have as much talent as just about anybody. They have been big underachievers this year, though. They have lost a bunch of games in the fourth quarter. Based on the way these teams look on paper, it is an even battle, but the Jets probably should come out on top based on actual performance.

Just like they do every week at this point, the Jets face a must win situation this Sunday as they host the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City comes limping into this game with a 5-7 record, which somehow puts them within striking range in the AFC West. They are struggling to generate much of anything offensively with a number of key players missing. Jets fans know a thing or two these days about offenses that cannot generate much.

This figures to be a low scoring game where field position and turnovers could play a key role. The deciding factor in this one might be which mistake prone quarterback avoids making the critical error to destroy his team's chances.

The Jets head to the nation's capital today to take on the Washington Redskins. Gang Green once again most likely needs a win to keep its postseason hopes alive.

You might be tempted to say this is a game the Jets should win. The fact of the matter is we are past the point of being able to say that about any game. The Jets are an average football team. They have an offense as close to the bottom of the league as the defense is close to the top.

The Redskins also have strengths to match up with areas the Jets are weak. They have a good tight end to exploit New York's safeties in coverage and good edge rushers to go after New York's weakness at right tackle. Expect a close game between two pretty bad offenses. Maybe I just reverse jinxed the Jets, and we'll get the kind of performance we should see.

It is seldom good when an NFL team has a game Thanksgiving weekend consider a must win. That is just the position the Jets have put themselves into this year. Because of their uneven play, they have virtually eliminated any margin for error the rest of the way. Guaranteeing the Playoffs quite possibly means winning out.

This one is an important one for the Jets. After last week's debacle against the Patriots, their margin for error the rest of the way in both the division and conference is either zero or close to it.

Looking at these teams on paper, the Jets give the Broncos a ton of problems. Frankly, this should be a comfortable win. There are a number of intangible factors that favor the Broncos including a potential hangover after a crushing loss, a short week, a long trip, one of the loudest crowds in the league, and the altitude.

It is finally here. The Patriots and Jets hit the field tonight. Sole ownership of first place in the AFC East is on the line due to Buffalo's loss in Dallas today.

It is easy to overstate how important this one is. Last year's Jets-Pats game with both teams at 9-2 seemed like the end of the world. We all know what happened. Just three years ago tonight the Jets and Pats played a game at this point of the season with first place on the line. The Jets won. The Pats finished two games up in the standings. There is a lot of football left no matter what happens. With that said, that game three years ago was significant. It gave the Jets an edge. It literally took an epic collapse for the Pats to regain the upper hand. In conclusion, this one might not be the end all, but it is pretty significant.

The Jets come out of their bye this week and make their annual trip to Orchard Park for a big contest against a surprisingly good Bills squad. This game is very important. A victory ties New York with Buffalo in the standings and will give the Jets at worst a chance to tie for the division lead against the Patriots next Sunday. A loss puts the Jets two back in the division and in third place. In a crowded AFC Playoff race, the Wild Card might not be there to fall back on like it has been the last two years.
