Mike Florio has Sunk to a new low
You know, I have always just passed Mike Florio of profootballtalk.com as a shrimp who takes "stories" that really don't mean anything and tries to make them interesting. In this process, he usually comes across as overanalytical and jumps to conclusions. Its annoying, yeah, but they at least do a good job of updating the site about every 10 minutes for football junkies like myself who need every headline the minute it comes out.
So usually, I just read the headlines of the articles and move one with my life. But there was just an article on Rex's weight loss, so I was curious enough to read on. I was quickly reminded of the little schmuck Mike Florio is.
You can read it here http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/03/21/rex-ryan-talks-about-his-weight-loss-surgery/
But read the last two paragraphs. Revolting.
But, frankly, if Ryan had discipline, he wouldn't have gotten so big. And he also would have been able to lose the weight without having a doctor cut him open and but a big rubber band around a fairly critical internal organ in the hopes of making Ryan feel full at a time in the feeding process much earlier that he ordinarily would.
So how does a guy who has been unable to demonstrate discipline expect 53 men to discipline themselves when it comes to diet and exercise? It's a great question, and it's apparently a gift that is possessed only by those who have the world by the you-know-whats.
Now there is stretching a story for entertainment value, and there is just disrespecting a man. So he has a weight problem. Its not news to anyone. Hes tried all the diets, none have worked. So he resorted to surgery. And it seems to be working so far. Great for you, Rex. He really seems happy, which is something very few of us can say.
Sure, Florio, Rex is a terrible guy. Because Rex has no discipline. Because everyone can start at Morehead State and work your way to being the head coach in the biggest media market in the world, all while battling dyslexia and weight problems. Because Rex has a tough time getting his player to play disciplined. Because New York isn't one of the most sought after places to play for now amongst players because of this man. Because he let his team quit on him and went from 4-6 to the AFC Championship. Because the Jets aren't second the the Giants anymore in NY. Because Rex's players wont run through a brick wall for him or anything.
We all have our weaknesses, our own kinds of personal problems. Not one person on this planet is perfect (Tiger Woods anyone?). It's what makes us human. Oh yeah, I'm sure that Mike Florio has had a fairytale life filled with nothing but happpiness and joy. No hardship in the life of Florio. Its all roses.
Didn't mean to get on a soapbox there, but i'm really irked by this article. With all the negative things going on around the world, when something positive comes along, why do we insist of turning it into negative?

Tyson Alualu, Cal
Love this guy as a mid-late round pick up to fill our need for DE. 6-3, 295, 4.8. Listed as a DT but plays all over the line. Seen a lot of 3-4 DE looks on the video I've seen. He's very disruptive, has a high motor and is very versatile. Perfect Rex-type guy that can be moved up and down the line and even looks comfortable dropping out into coverage. If we can grab this guy in the 5th or 6th round to play DE it would be an absolute coup.

Saturday Night Open Thread
Just trying something a little new here, something that a lot of SB Nation blogs do.
Just leaving a general open thread for members to discuss anything, football or otherwise.
With so much basketball going on right now, Kansas just being taken down by Northern Iowa, plenty to talk to.
So will take this for a test run here in the fan posts section.

jets work out Iupati
Jets eyeing Iupati in Round 1?
2:35PM ET New York Jets Top Email
The Brandon Marshall rumors taught us many things, but perhaps most centrally: The New York Jets value their first-round pick (No. 29 overall) more highly than many of us realize. After all, the ongoing belief is that if the Jets offered that pick, the Denver Broncos would easily accept a trade that would give Mark Sanchez and crew a young, dominant asset.
So who are they so hellbent on taking that they wouldn't like to have Marshall instead? Maybe an offensive lineman, which would seem crazy given that they already had three Pro Bowlers on the O-line in 2009. According to a report from National Football Post, the Jets are among three teams that hosted Idaho guard Mike Iupati for a workout this week. Iupati played guard in college, but he has the potential to slide to RT as a pro. The strong might be getting even stronger.

Mike Iupati -- Can We Afford to Pass Him Up?
The 6'6" 330 lbs Samaon (gotta love Samoans) left guard out of Idaho very well could be available when we make our 29th selection in this year's draft. Im not much of an evaluator when it comes to offensive lineman, but he has a reputation for being a mauler in the run-game. He's tremendously athletic despite his gargantuan size (I've always liked that word, "gargantuan") and many predict that he can play tackle at the next level.
Our current left guard, Alan Faneca, will be 34 this year and although he was just recently named to the Pro Bowl, he was invited mostly based upon name recognition. Our left tackle, Damien Woody will be 33 this year. These guys are aging, and we've been pretty lucky not to have sustained serious injury along our offensive front. Keep in mind that we have a QB still in his infancy, an offense heavily predicated on having a strong running game, and the fact that we've gone two years without sustaining any serious injury in our o-line. Big Mike can fill in at either the tackle or guard position. And if we can squeeze another good year out of Faneca and Woody, and let the big fella learn his craft and adapt to the system, we could ensure that we have a great o-line for years to come.
I know its not the sexy pick, but can we really afford to pass on this guy?

Running Backs by Round
There are some of us that believe that the signing of LD is a signal that Leon's departure is imminent. If Leon is traded or signed by another team, we will need to address our running back situation. Luckily, this year's draft class is loaded with talent. Here are my suggestions for who we should target in each round.

Owusu-Ansah FS?
Right here is my theory... Owusu-Ansah is projected to be a mid round pick. so hopefully be there when jets are picking in the fourth. He has good height and strength standing at 6 ft and pumping out 21 reps on the bench at his pro day. To me this means he has the ability to put in a big hit but also because he was a college CB has good coverage skills. He is fast and strong and therefore can excell as an nfl free safety. I just believe that this could be a very good long term solution at free safety for the jets and they wont have to give a 1st rounder for him which i like.
Would like people opinions on this matter

Osi Revisited
A while back a rumor started that the Giants and Jets might work out a trade involving Kerri Rhodes and Osi Umenyiora. That was the first time I entertained the possibility of Osi being a Jet. Kerri is long gone now, but Osi is still unhappy. With Osi's continued grumblings over in Giantland, and our need for a quality pass rusher to take our defense to the next level, I thought it might be a good idea to talk about the possibility again.
I have to say that I find the prospect of Osi in our defense to be very intriguing. He would definitely command alot of attention as a premier edge rusher. But I worry about him switching from DE to OLB in the 3-4 scheme. I think I would be open to trading for him if we could get him for a mid to late round pick or some kind of package involving next year's picks.
