Our Jets roster countdown moves on to Dylan Donahue.
Name: Dylan Donahue
Number: 53
Year with Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Possibly competing for playing time as an edge rusher; likely special teamer
His 2016: Donahue set the Gulf South Conference record with 13.5 sacks at Division II West Georgia. This earned him the conference Defensive Player of the Year award. The Jets grabbed him in the fifth round of the NFL Draft.
2017 will be a success if: Donahue establishes himself as a role player and special teamer. It has been widely reported that he has a big fan in his position coach, Kevin Greene. He even got some first team snaps during the offseason program. I tend to think expecting a major contribution out of a small school fifth round round pick as a rookie is overly ambitious. Even long-term, I tend to think Donahue’s boom scenario is as a nice depth piece and special teams standout rather than as an impact player. Of course, that is only a guess. Maybe Donahue can make something of himself. I think showing he deserves a role would suffice for 2017, though.
Odds of making the roster: More Likely Than Not (50-75%)
