Manish Mehta reports Jets defensive lineman is planning to attend training camp while he continues to seek a new contract.
-Muhammad Wilkerson's search for a lucrative new deal won't prevent him from attending the start of Jets training camp on Wednesday. Not surprisingly, the Jets standout defensive end plans to report to the team's facility despite his displeasure over his contractual status, according to a source.
Wilkerson is scheduled to make $6.97 million as part of the team's fifth-year option, but is looking for an extension. He skipped the team's voluntary workouts before showing up for the three-day mandatory minicamp in June, which was a strong indication that he wouldn't hold out when training camp began.
A holdout was not expected. Wilkerson has not been actively raising the idea he would hold out, but it is still good to hear that he will be in camp on time and preparing for the season. Hopefully something gets done soon.
