Top 5 Best Value Free Agents For The NY Jets

With free agency looming many fans wonder which way Jets GM, Mike McCagnan will go to supplement the Jets many holes before the draft.

The Jets may or may not decide to part ways with free agent starters Dawan Landry (FS), David Harris (MLB), Willie Colon (G) and have until March 19th to decide whether or not to keep newly acquired WR, Percy Harvin.

The Jets are likely to part ways with Harvin and Colon who both haven't quite performed up to their price tags. Landry and Harris although solid contributors are getting up there in age but both could have a few good years left in them. If the Jets were to part ways with all 4 starters, they would need to address the following positions in free agency:

CB, WR, FS, ILB, OLB, OG, OT, QB

The following are the best value free agents that won't break the bank and could strongly upgrade the team

1. Kareem Jackson - CB (previous team Houston Texans) - This move just makes sense, Mike McCagnan worked with him in Houston and watched him grow from a struggling rookie to a solid starter, he not only would fill the void at CB but can also serve as a mentor for Dee Milliner who himself has been hot and cold since being drafted two years ago.

2. Brian Orakpo - OLB (previously with Washington Redskins) - A 3 time pro bowler who would have been a top free agent last year before being tagged by the Redskins. After tearing his pectoral muscle last October and sitting out the rest of the season, Brian is primed for a comeback year at a slight discount to what he would've cost in free agency 2014.

3. Clint Boling - OG (previously with Cincinnati Bengals) - Probably one of the more underrated linemen in the league. Clint Boling was a 4th round pick in 2011 by the Bengals, and played excellently last year as part of the offensive line that allowed Jeremy Hill to break out his rookie season with 1124 yards and a team total of 2147 rush yards

4. Austin Davis - QB (previously with St Louis Rams) - A young 25 year old quarterback who was thrown to the wolves when Sam Bradford got injured. Was up and down but was able to have 5 starts out of 9 with QBRs about 95 and was able to win against very competitive defenses such as the Seahawks and 49ers. He's very young and could still develop under QB whisperer, Chan Gailey. Austin Davis would be very cheap and could provide solid competition this offseason for Geno Smith

5. Rolando McClain - ILB (previously with Dallas Cowboys) - The comeback story of 2014, Rolando McClain, along with a 7th rounder was traded to the Cowboys from the Ravens for a mere 6th round selection. On a minimum salary of $700,000, McClain quickly became a leader of a Cowboys defense in glaring need of one and helped Dallas reach their first divisional appearance in the playoffs since 2009. He may have earned a bigger contract on the field, but after violating the league's substance abuse policy after the season, the next team to give him a shot will be doing so at a discount.
