Live From D'Brickashaw Ferguson Way: 53 Man and Practice Squad Predictions

Live from D'Brickashaw Ferguson Way in Freeport, New York, I have calculated what I envision will be the final 53 man roster and 10 man practice squad for your 2014 New York Jets. Enjoy:

QB: Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms (3)

Sorry Tajh, you've been terrible.

RB: Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Daryl Richardson, Bilal Powell, Tommy Bohannon (5)

Should be rather self-explanatory. No Alex Green, but he'll make it somewhere after demonstrating talent in the preseason.

WR: Eric Decker, David Nelson, Greg Salas, Jeremy Kerley, Saliim Hakim, Jalen Saunders (6)

No Hill, thank God. I am surprised and happy to see Salim Hakim receive the kick return duties, I kinda saw this coming last year when I looked into his collegiate career. At this point, Coach McGaughy's reputation precedes him, and if he wants Hakim, he'll get Hakim returning the kicks on special teams. As for Salas, he has earned a spot as long as he remembers not to run behind Mangold as he snaps the ball ever again. Oh and as for Clyde Gates, maybe he'll end up somewhere else.

TE: Jeff Cumberland, Jace Amaro, Zach Sudfield (3)

Blocking tight ends are overrated

OT: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Breno Giacomini, Ben Ijalana (3)

I like Ijalana, but he's only here for depth. Should a better tackle find his way to the market through roster cuts, Ben may have to pack his bags.

OG: Brian Winters, Oday Aboushi, Willie Colon, Dakota Dozier (4)

I personally am glad to see Aboushi and Winters starting to come into form, and as much as I like Colon, Dozier will hopefully be rapping at the door behind him.

OC: Nick Mangold, Dalton Freeman (2)

Anyone else happy Schlauderaff is gone?

DT: Kenrick Ellis, Damon Harrison (2)

No explanation needed.

DE: Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Leger Douzable (3)

See DT.

OLB: Calvin Pace, Quinton Coples, Jason Babin, Ik Enemkpali, Garret McIntyre (5)

Shame on anyone who believes Enemkpali hasn't earned a roster spot, this guy has been a force. I take Babin as a healthy Barnes replacement and McIntyre may not last, but for now he'll stick until another roster spot needs upgrading. I wouldn't be too surprised to see someone like Ricky Sapp make his way back to this group.

ILB: David Harris, Demario Davis, AJ Edds, Nick Bellore (4)

No surprises here, Edds has knocked George to the practice squad and improved this unit. Maybe Edds replaces Harris next year, maybe Harris plays good enough to warrant another deal, either way, we've improved.

CB: Dee Milliner, Darrin Walls, Kyle Wilson, Lequan Lewis, Ellis Lankster, Johnny Patrick (6)

Patterson is out, it was a fun experiment but Darrin Walls and Laquan Lewis should be the stop gaps until Mcdougle or some free agent can play opposite Dee. On the bright side, our safety situation has gotten better and should help over the top. As for Patrick, I think he's played well enough to warrant a roster spot, but should a better option present itself, Patrick is gone.

S: Calvin Pryor, Antonio Allen, Dawan Landry, Rontez Miles (4)

It was hard to get rid of both Bush and Jarrett at the safety position but I think the upgrade that is Pryor has made both obsolete. I've noticed that everyone seems to think Jarrett's job is the safer of the two but I disagree, and even with Bush's blitzing ability, he too has become replaceable as I personally haven't heard much from either all pre-season, however Miles has been a special teams force and should easily stick around on this roster.

Kicker: Nick Folk

Punter: Ryan Quigley

Long Snapper: Tanner Purdum (3)

Who is surprised here? Maybe Quigley sticks, maybe he gets replaced by someone like Michael Palardy, who thought his tryout went better than it did. We'll just have to wait and see.

And now for the 10 man practice squad:

PS:

Quincy Enunwa

Brandon Dixon

Michael Campbell

Tajh Boyd

Trevor Riley

Jerimiah George

Kerry Hyder

Ryan Spadola (udfa 2013)

Mike Edwards (udfa 2013)

Nigel Nicholas (udfa 2013)

Plain and simple, someone is bound to snatch Troy Davis, TJ Barnes and Chris Pantale away before the practice squad can be signed. Campbell has always been a good practice player, and seeing how I think the Jets want the most depth at WR and CB, I believe he'll be an easy target to bring back. Also, Ryan Spadola has been cut by the Dolphins, bringing him back should be a no-brainer, along with 2013 almost made it corner Mike Edwards who should add to the much needed corner depth. As for Nigel Nicholas, I figure he's a decent defensive end to invest in after losing out on the final cuts on last year's Titan's team. I wouldn't be surprised to see some O-Line depth make its way here as well, several are expendable.
