3 Observations from Camp Today

Okay, so this started with me mentioning me going to camp today for the first time, apparently I got signed up to report on camp. Of course I knew its a joke, but I figured why not? I watch football and have what I think is a good eye for it too. I figured I would try to provide something different back to this community since I love reading what everyone else seems to write on here. As a note, I got here a little late at something like 12:30 or maybe closer to 1, so I definetly missed Salas's 1 handed grab for reference. That, or I completely zoned out and missed it. I also spent most of my time watching the offense, and only got a glimpse of the defense overall. Because I know you all can hear about the vast majority of what happens in camp, I'm going to try to talk about a couple things that stood out to me in detail. Without further ado:

1) Stephen Hill looks like Stephen Hill

Bet some of you knew that was coming. WR vs CB drill with Geno tossing the ball. Hill beats the CB on a beautifully executed double move, showing great burst and getting off the line in short order. He makes a sharp cut and starts bolting to the back of the end zone. Hill has gained a great amount of separation and the ball placement is perfect as it sails through the air. Hill then proceeds to do his trademark short hop, turn around in mid air, and have the ball sail through his fingers and bounce off his chest. The crowd groans and some jeer in a classic example of Hill's school of Hard Hands.

2) Milliner looks well

You may have heard a little about Milliner being out of the boot, but I saw him out on the sideline talking to Lankster. He was indeed out of the boot, and did not look injured in the slightest. Some observation yielded watching Milliner even jog a little. When you talk about any leg injury, you also expect him to favor his other leg and limp around a tad, especially if he just got the boot removed. He did not favor either leg, and stood in a neutral stance when talking. Now, since I'm no medical expert, I do not know how serious a high ankle sprain is or what the patient would look like, and it is also probably mitigated by how impressive a physical specimen football players are, so take all of this with a grain of salt.

3) Lankster looked like the real deal

In the 7v7s, Lankster got matched up against Kerley. Kerley got off to a great start, with a fake to the slant before cutting back up and heading on a go route. Lankster didnt bite hard on the slant and stayed with Kerley step for step down the sideline. Geno chucked the ball downfield towards the endzone. Now, I could be remembering this incorrectly, but here are the events in the order I remember. The ball is slightly off target, so if you took a snap shot of it, and had Kerley face forward with his arms fully outstretched, the ball would have hit him at the elbows instead of the hands, and because it came from the side and not behind the WR, requires a slight adjustment for the WR to catch it. the first thing that happens is that Kerley tips his shoulder down and starts to turn his head. Lankster immediately brings his elbow up and starts to turn his head almost in synch. Note, this is after a significant time (a good 4-5 seconds) of Lankster not so much tipping his head while keeping it straight ahead after turning around. By the time the ball is about to hit, Lankster has tilted his head to see the ball in his peripheral vision and gotten his arm almost fully outstretched in between both of Kerley's outstretched arms. Minus Lankster, this play is an easy completion, as Kerley looks completely in synch with Geno and the ball placement is great. Because the placement is not perfect and Lankster is not trailing and makes a great play, the crowd is disappointed while I cheer to the tune of an incompletion. Maybe this is an isolated event, but his fundamentals looked solid and he looked very fluid. I would not be surprised to see him on the field more even when we get Milliner and Patterson to full speed.

Hope you guys enjoyed, especially you Fly14 :P
