Would it behhoove the Jets to bring back Dustin Keller?

With the dearth of talent the jets displayed at the TE position last year, and the fact that Keller could be had on the cheap with an incentive laden (Idzik type) deal, would it behoove the Jets to acquire Dustin Keller on a prove it deal?

Personally I believe that this would be a prudent decision by Idzik, who has truly been the luckiest GM this offseason in my humble opinion. While the Jets improved their talent at WR and QB, I think that had more to due with the appeal of playing in NY than anything that Idzik did personally. If Idzik was the GM of the Buffalo Bills, These two players would not be on their roster. Also, CJ2K would most likely be playing with the Raiders were he released earlier in the offseason. Luckily for Idzik the market for RBs was already dried out when CJ2K was let go by the Titans, leading to a favorable deal for the Jets to acquire Johnson without a true bidding war. Sometimes its better to be lucky than good...

However there is no way that Jets fans can bemoan the sining of free agent Keller, who is easily the best catching TE that Rex Ryan has ever had in his tenure. It was clearly a mistake letting him go for the likes of Cumberland, a laughably terrible catching TE with hands made of stone.Next to Buttfumble, Cumberland has lead the Jets with scathingly bad plays. Keller has gotten the all clear by his agent after injuring his knee with the Miami Dolphins, and is looking to sigh with the (gasp) Patriots or Giants! For the team that drafted Keller with their number one pick to let him go to a rival like the Pats with Gronk and Keller would be a huge mistake! with the deep WR class this year, Keller and Gronk would make it virtually impossible to stop Tom Brady.

I think that if the rumors of Keller returning to form are true, the Jets must try to get him back on the team. Although he is 29 years old an a terrible blocker, he is easily the best pass catching TE on the market and that includes Jermichal Finley, who is a much greater health risk than Keller. It would also allow the Jets to draft a CB instead of a TE in the Second round, and prevent a potentially potent offensive player from going to the Patriots on the cheap. Nobody knows better that us the threat that Keller poses for opposing defenses due to his speed and catching ability. He is a big body that makes tough catches in deep traffic, and was consistently the number one ball catcher for Sanchez. Once he was let go, Sanchez was exposed for the terrible QB he always was. Keller's ability to beat Line backers was greatly missed as our WRs could not do the same against CBs and Sanchez was officially doomed. Geno had to thrive with a dearth or WRs last year, but that also belies the fact that the Jets are just as lack luster at the TE position... another important position that Idzik has ignored and has been given a pass on by the media and fans. Keller would allow the Jets to go CB and WR and address TE even later in the draft. So thats why I think the jets should try to get Keller back in green and white. What do you think?
