Please don't take this post seriously.
It was about this time last year that I first took an interest in the NFL offseason (mainly the draft). I remember learning about the difference between "drafting for need" and "taking the best player available (BPA)." It was the perfect time to learn this because Idzik had just become our new GM and no one knew his drafting style. Then we took Sheldon Richardson with our 13th pick (clearly a BPA choice) and the Jets blogosphere erupted with upset fans who wanted some offensive talent. I even made a joke here on GGN about Idzik being dyslexic, thinking the team needed the most DT's to win a game. Fast forward a year and everyone loves our NFL Defensive ROTY. I've seen mock re-drafts that say Richardson would have been the overall first pick if everyone knew then what they know now.
This means very little, if anything. One draft does not establish a pattern, and most people believe that the team will draft based on need this year. For the record, I am one of them. But just out of curiosity, who is the overall 18th ranked prospect in this year's draft? For convenience, I turned to CBS Sports (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings) and found Louis Nix, a DT from Notre Dame, filling that spot.
I have to laugh.
