Round 1 18th Darqueze Dennard- Michigan State (cb): I can only imagine what the fans would do if Dennard were the selection come May 8th. This would be the 5th straight year the Jets select a defensive player, and the way the Free Agency period has gone so far, some fans may be getting ready to bring their pitchforks up to Florham . Dennard fits a need for the Jets, and would give them a physical corner that's a great fit in Rex Ryan's system. Liked we learned with Milliner last year though, there is a learning curve for rookie cbs in Ryan's system.
Round 2- 49th Allen Robinson – Penn State (Wr): 6'3 Receiver that showed consistent hands throughout the season. Robinson is also a solid route runner which is beneficial in him getting open at the next level, because his speed is nothing to get excited about. Robinson could help the Jets in the red zone with his size and impressive leaping ability, but needs to add more weight to his frame.
Round 3- 80th Marcus Smith -Louisville (olb): No question that the New York Jets need to improve their pass rush from the OLB position. Depending on the system Smith is drafted in he will either be a 4-3 defensive end of a 3-4 OLB. Smith is very quick off the ball and uses his hands very well to get off blocks. The Jets need a young speed rusher off the edge Smith could be the answer.
Round 4 100th Dri Archer Kent State(rb/wr) The Jets desperately need a playmaker on the offense. Dri Archer is an explosive player with 4.26 speed. His combine has definitely improved his draft stock. To start off his career Archer will probably have the most impact as a return man.
Round 4 111th Anthony Steen Alabama(G)- The Jets could have a need at offensive guard if Willie Colon is not brought back. Steen could provide toughness and great instincts at the guard position for the future.
Round 5 142 Tre Boston Norh Carolina(S) The Jets have a solid defense but its been one that doesn't cause many turnovers. Boston brings that ball-hawking player in the secondary that the Jets need.
This is a draft that I truly believe Jets fans need to prepare for. I understand that many fans want one of the explosive playmakers at either WR or TE in the first round, but Idzik will stick to his guns and if he feels like a Defensive player is the BPA at 18th he will go with that player. We all know the talent at the WR position is extremely deep so Idzik may sit back and wait on a WR in round 2. Have faith Jets fans.
