Three Players We Missed Out On.

Just because a player we need a player desperately and they signed somewhere else, doesn't mean we missed out on them. It's all about getting the right players at the right price. Unfortunately, this offseason there were a few deals that other teams were able to make that make you wonder why on earth didn't we make that deal.

1) Alterraun Verner.

While he may not be a top five corner in this league, he is still a great corner. He is a great cover corner, can tackle and is only 25 years old. He signed with the Bucs for only an average of 6.625 million per year. That is extremely low for one of the best corners in this free agency class. What bothers me is that this guy had so many teams after him. It's ridiculous that all the other teams didn't offer him above 7 million per year. If Verner signed with the jets for seven million per year that would have been a great deal for the Jets and we would have been out of this "lack of corner crisis" by now.

2) Brandon Pettigrew

We don't have a decent blocking tight end on the roster. Not only is Pettigrew a blocking tight end, he is also a good receiver that would've gave us a one two punch with Cumberland. He signed with the Lions for 4 million a year for 4 years. He would have cost only around two million more than what cumberland cost us. I'll give Idzik the benefit of the doubt on this one. Pettigrew might have elected to stay with the more explosive Detroit offensive because of personal reasons. It would've been great if the jets were able to sign him for the same amount of money. If we enter the draft without signing Finley, then we are almost forced to draft a tight end in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

3) Hakeem Nicks

I was never crazy about Hakeem Nicks because I thought some team out there is bound to overpay him. I was stunned that he only signed a prove it one year 3.5 million with the colts. I know he likes Andrew Luck but come on, only 3.5 million?? Giacomini, a stop gap signing, makes more than that by a million. I would have been happy if we signed Nicks for 5 million a year. He has potential to actually be a number one receiver for us and he is only 26 for god's sake. Yeah he has injury problems and maybe even character problems but his ceiling is higher than Eric Decker.
