I found this article from USA today:
The article is is based on the quality of free agency the Jets have had, the major excerpt is this one:
At the NFL Combine, I had three different agents tell me that Idzik "was in over his head." I assumed they were ribbing me for liking the Jets, but they said his biggest flaw was that he was indecisive; later, someone used the word "glacial" when talking about the pace he moved when making roster decisions. It’s pretty clear they weren’t bullshitting.
The biggest thing to note is that this is a writer that mostly focuses on basketball, he relative unknown in football. And he is quoting "friends". If I had a nickle for every story that was from a "friend" or "this guy I know" I would have a dollar or two.
Most of us however will refute this completely but not objectively. We refuse to believe that someone hired to lead this team could be indecisive or obtuse. We rather believe that he has a plan and that he is simply following it to the letter. Question is: What if it is true? What then? If Idzik is simply over his head and incapable of being a leader and taking command of this ship. Where is the team headed?
So far the two biggest criticisms people have had of Idzik is that he playing hardball and that he is being cheap just because. Either or both of those things is not a bad thing. As long as it pays off. We will have a better picture of what his deal really is come next offseason, unfortunately in a game that is win right now we might have to endure another disappointing season.
Please understand that I am not taking this article to heart, I am one of those that refuses to believe it. But we must always look at every angle and keep it in mind. The destruction of the Jets secondary might not look that bad when the season comes, Allen has potential, Milliner is capable of being a number one CB and any one can step up and play at a high level. In a passing league it is scary to have the players the Jets do in the back of the defense but this is a team that has many holes. Hopefully Idzik does indeed have a plan, hopefully he also has a few backup plans too. Just in case his main one does not work.
