Yes it is only day two of free agency and there are still half of the free agents waiting for contracts. But all John Idzick has done thus far is overpay a Kicker and sign third stringers. Is he going to attempt to build through the notoriously crapshoot that is the draft where the only team that is guaranteed their targeted player is the first one picking?
So far the players the team has shown interest are either unnecessary (Vick, Mccown), barely practice squad players (Giacomini) or not on any one's radar. It seems that he is in rebuilding mode. very carefully selecting players that will not make him look bad mostly because they wont play. His former team builds on the philosophy that you keep you strengths strong. Idzick is not even doing that, so far replacing Cromartie has been forgotten, OLB, MLB, safety, all areas of need, all will be filled with either old and slow players or new and raw ones.
On the offense there is still nothing, except for a hurting practice squad player and a hurting TE. Hope you get your players in the draft Idzick because it is going to be a long drive back to Seattle the way you are going. A team full of holes, very good free agents to fill them and you pick form the bottom of the heap.
MArk Sanchez is still on the team, maybe as a June 1 cut designation, maybe as the starting QB. The way it is going.
The Jets have to spend money. It is on the Labor agreement that every team has to spend certain amount in a four year grouping. Perhaps Idzick will spend that money on Sanchez or Geno or better yet CAlvin Pace. What do you say to $15 mil a year for one of those guys? Or Decker? Yay, I can't hardly wait to see Idzick be forced to spend on someone.
One last thing, I know that he may be a genius and that I'll never understand his methodology much less his thinking. But when you have thing nothing but moronic actions taken all across the spectrum of team that you follow you can't help but to see certain patterns repeating here. It seems that either Idzick will overspend on free agents that will give absolutely no return, or he will just sign bottom players because no one wants to negotiate with him. Or worst of all, both. In one and a half offseeason he has done the second, if he does not correct, next season he'll do the last. And we will start the circle of Jets history, good seasons, bad decade.
