#46 Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo vs Ohio ST '13 (via SportCutups)
6-3, 250, 4.65 forty, 1.56 split
2013: 56 tackles, 19 TFL, 10.5 sacks, 5 FF, 3 INTs
Numbers are off the charts. Measurables are off the charts. Tape is absolutely sizzling. Khalil is not only a special prospect, but he's the special prospect that we've been waiting for to plug into Rex Ryan's defense. It seems like for the last 5 or so years we've been engaging in a battle of trade-offs between strength at the point of attack vs speed to rush the edge, often times settling for one over the other only to sacrifice having the versatility of having a guy that can drop into coverage. But with Khalil, we no longer would be giving up one thing to gain another. With Khalil the Lion, we'd be sacrificing QBs at the alter of the Football Gods.
Khalil can beat most any tackle off the edge with his quickness and speed. But he also can quickly change direction and jump inside without a glove even touching him if you're playing him too far to the outside. Oh yeah, he can convert speed to power and just run through you if he's got you on your heels. But he's not just an edge guy. He can display true lionbacking skills to pinch the point of attack, drop into coverage, or hunt the ball carrier. Never before have we been presented such an opportunity to maybe have a shot at somebody with not only dominating physicality, but also dominating versatility. If we plugged him into our young defensive lion with Mo and Sheldon and Quinton, that would be one sick pride.
So the questions is this... would you be willing to trade this year's first and next year's first for Khalil the Lion? You gotta figure somebody somewhere between picks 5-11 is willing to entertain that offer. Would you offer more?
