A Start to the Jets off-season

The Jets this offseason have many voids to fill to become a contender in a division that have been dominated by the Patriots. The most important issue to address is the cap space with the players already on our team. What would be the smart decision to do with the players who don’t deserve to be a Jet? Mark Sanchez, Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie have such a big cap hit that we need to release them. Holmes hasn’t been healthy and not near the caliber player he once was. It is time to cut the ties and let him leave and just build through this free agency. For Mark Sanchez there is no possibility of him being the starting quarterback for the New York Jets in the future. We did not draft Smith to give it up. Smith showed he understands the offense and can make plays with his legs. It is time for Rex Ryan to admit his mistake of drafting Sanchez so early and let him continue a career elsewhere. There is no reason to bring Sanchez back especially with his salary. As for Cromartie we should bring him back on a one-year deal. He is a valuable leader and teacher for our young defensive back to learn from. He still can be a great cornerback in our scheme we just need to pay him much less. If the Jets want to be a playoff contender we need to crush free agency. We need to bring in quality players at safety, outside linebacker, wide receiver, left guard, and right tackle. It would be extremely wise if the New York Jets front office resign Austin Howard. After, his much improved season this year there is no doubt he should be back. As for the right guard position, Brian Winters struggled mightily being a rookie. He should glances of explosiveness and pure dominance. Other times he looked overmatched and clueless. Therefore, the Jets should bring in competition at this position to really test and push Winters to improve. If the Jets can make a splash in free agency hitting on one of the stud wide receivers in this class would be a major improvement. Giving Geno Smith more weapons is only going to help our passing game to open our run game. With the way the passing game in the NFL is turning into the Jets need to follow the trend and consider bringing in a versatile tight end who will cause matchup problems. This will open the field so much more and make our offense more explosive and potent. On the flip side the Jets need to highly consider in looking for a cover safety who can cover these athletic tight ends. The Jets need to have players who can cause turnovers to help give our offense easier scoring opportunities.
