Bruce Irvin is an explosive pass rusher by way of West Virginia. He was drafted by the Seahawks in the first round of the 2012 draft. In his rookie season he notched 8 sacks and appeared to be off to a promising start to his career. However, he's not quite a fit in the Seahawk 43 defense. He's a bit too small to with his hand on the dirt at DE so the Seahawks transitioned his role to LB, and he's not a very good one. Irvin would be a much better fit in our system than theirs. Maybe Seattle would be open to a trade.
Sine Irvin is still on his rookie contract, his presence doesn't really hurt Seattle. But their not ever going to realize his potential in the system they run. Right now he's a sunk cost for them. Maybe we can swoop in and help them to mitigate that loss. Heck, maybe we can help them flip it to a strength. Maybe we could flip a Damon Harrison or a second rounder or something for him. Maybe they could give us Irvin and their first rounder to move up to our 18th spot. I think Irvin would thrive in our defense.
He's a pure speed rusher. But he's athletic enough to change direction and he's savvy enough to transition his speed to power/leverage. Put outside of Mo or Coples and QBs will be running for their lives. His year playing 43 backer in the Seattle wetlands would only enhance his value as a 34 OLB over here. And Idzik's insider knowledge of Seattle's brain trust only makes the exploration of trading for him more plausible. He's not a fit there, but he's a fantastic fit here, what do we gotta do to make this happen?
