I realize it's everyone's personal opinion to set up these Fan-Made Mock Drafts. I consider them gauges of how the fan base feels, because while obviously most aren't bothering with creating a mock draft, the ones that do bother are hardcore. So my question is, how in the world is it that I never see a QB taken in any of these mock drafts?
Apart from the fact that a veteran "backup" isn't more than exactly that (a backup), who is it that you would like brought in for our QB to look up to? I mean, if anything, the quickest glance at the current available free agent QBs available this year should make you laugh; or puke; either way. I mean, seriously? McCown? Vick?? VICK?! I will hand in my membership card if he is ever on the New York Jets' roster. The veteran option is a non-starter.
Additionally, considering the state of our QB roster, in what universe do you consider it acceptable? Even if you think Geno is going to be a world-beater eventually, how could any responsible GM call this QB roster ready to go? On top of that, this year AND next year's classes have highly touted QB talent in them. No GM worth a damn would ignore that considering all these factors. Geno needs competition just as much as he needs weapons.
It is a circular argument when each side posits that you need a QB or the weapons are useless, or you need weapons or the QB is useless. You need both. But history has shown us over and over that no position is more important than the QB, and there is no argument remaining against that (don't try using the latest Super Bowl either, that's a nonsensical argument for another thread).
Quarterbacks rule this game. Smith/Simms/Garrard is a hysterical combination that does not promote competition, and does not hold promise for the future should Smith fail. It's Minnesota 2.0. In what fantasy are these mock draft creators living that they are so infrequently part of the plan?
I won't complain about what round (while I prefer top 3), but we should all be hoping a QB is drafted this year and probably next year as well. Thus, every mock draft I see should have a QB in it.
