My Amateur Mock Draft

With the 2014 NFL Season coming to a close in just three more weeks, many Jet fans are looking ahead to the 2015 NFL Draft. I personally can't wait to see who we pick and who is going to be picking and coaching those players, but for now all I can do is dream. For starters, many Jet fans are fighting over who should be the next QB for the Jets: Mariota or Winston?

For me the answer is simple.

Neither.

Im my eyes, both prospects have too many questions and not enough answers to be drafted that high. Mariota comes from a spread offense (a.k.a. everyone is always open) and receivers still have to adjust to catch the ball very often, and he is also considered to be a better athelete than quarterback. Winston has been very careless with the ball as of late (sorry Crackback) hasn't really been the complete and total #1 reason why they're undefeated (defense bails them out at times, although at times it doesn't like the Georgia Tech game, and the running game has gotten very good) and his off the field issues, although some are unproven and only alleged cases, are very serious and in one scouts eyes, has made him a "Nightmare" prospect.

With that said personally my dream situation for the Jets, is to get the #2 overall pick, and have the Buccaneers earn the #1st overall. In this situation, the Buccaneers would select Marcus Mariota, taking away all thoughts of him from the men in the Draft Room, yet keeping Winston on the board for a potential TRADE. The team I'd like the Jets to trade with the most is although somewhat unlikely, the Redskins. Sure the Redskins were just burned by an extremely expensive trade involving several first round picks that may have amounted to a bust at QB, but if they keep Jay Gruden (Its only been one season) he may be inclined to take his pick at his own franchise QB. If we were to trade with the Redskins, who currently own the 6th overall pick, they would have to account for 1000 points if we were to trade from the 2nd overall pick (#2 pick = 2600 points, #6 pick = 1600 points). This would cost them at least two first round picks and possibly a third or later round pick. This would move the Jets back very little and set them up for two years of potentially great drafting. I'll explain next year's ideas towards the end.

Anyway lets get down to business, the draft.

I'll include multiple players at some picks just for the sake of putting out names that would vary depending on situation and how they grade out from here to the draft.

1. (AFTER TRADE W/ WAS) Randy Gregory/Amari Cooper/ Trae Waynes

Randy Gregory would make our defensive front so incredibly dominant, it would make QBs fall to their knees and beg for mercy. In a pass happy league, this would be an incredible counter.

Amari Cooper would bring a young, phenomenal receiver to the Jets that would help a future QB and whoever we use next year.

Trae Waynes would fill a gaping hole at CB next year and bring physicality to the position. People wonder if he's even better than the CB who got drafted out of Michigan St. last year, Darqueze Dennard, who went to the Bengals in the first round last year.

2. Marcus Peters/ Tre' Jackson/ Edge Rusher/ Dorial Green-Beckham

These picks are based situationally if Harvin is kept, what position we draft in the first, et cetera.

3. Sean Mannion

The other QB in Oregon plays in a pro style offense, led a team that did, well, iffy last year, but when he had Brandin Cooks last year, was a incredible player. If you watch his highlights you'll see he makes great throws too, one's where he hits the WR in stride, or throws into a relatively tight window. His teammates loved him and many think he can be a pretty good pro. In the third round, why not shoot at a potential QB, if it doesn't work, well at least you tried I guess.

4. I'll skip this assuming Harvin is kept

At this point I don't know many prospects all that well so I will only be listing position to draft in.

5. OL

6. LB

7. WR/ CB/ RB

Personally I'd be ecstatic with this draft, and going back to thinking about 2016 from earlier, here's my plan.

WIth two first round picks, the Jets would be able to trade up from their position to be in position to draft either Connor Cook or Christian Hackenburg without mortgaging any future drafts.

My favorite so far of the two is Hackenburg, who has played now two seasons in a pro style offense at Penn State. His freshman year was electric and was touted as the best QB in Penn St. history, his second season has fallen off, but it can be attributed to a loss of Allen Robinson (drafted in the 2nd round) and atrocious O-Line play. Penn State has had to deal with less scholarships to give out due to the Jerry Sandusky incident, and therefore significantly less talent than most other teams that they play, another contributer to Hackenburg's down year, however if he has a great showing next year as he is expected too, I'll be the one shouting for his name if the Jets can't find a QB in Sean Mannion, Geno, or a FA.

That's my personal take on the situation, comment below with your feelings.
