First of all I'd just like to introduce myself to all of you. I'm Offseason Fanatic, and this is my first account on this wonderful Jets fan base. As you probably can tell, I'm a huge offseason fan. I'm really happy to be on here!
Anyways, after watching the Orange Bowl tonight, it's safe to say Sammy Watkins is going in the top 10. Tonight we could all see a dominant, amazing NFL receiver shining in Watkins. He made beautiful catches, broke off some runs, and displayed his football ability. Now, everyone has been saying this is a wide receiver-rich draft, which it is. People have also been saying there is no need to trade up for any one receiver because there's so many other good ones that it wouldn't matter. But Watkins isn't good. He's great. For a long time now we as fans have drooled at the thought of a playmaker such as Calvin Johnson. While Watkins doesn't nearly have as much size as Johnson, his own talent and ability makes up for it. He is so much better than the second best WR in the draft; it's no competition. That's why I think we need to trade up for Watkins.
I'm not saying we should break the bank like the Redskins did to get RGIII. But for the right price, I (if I were John Idzik) would pull the trigger in a heartbeat. Watkins is the type of guy to pay off such an investment. I don't care if Mike Evans or Marqise Lee or Allen Robinson or Jordan Matthews will still be on the board if we don't trade up, Sammy Watkins has so much more potential and natural talent that it wouldn't matter. Sammy Watkins could change the Jets offense for the next ten years.
