Round 1
Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU
6'0" - 187 ILBs - 4.44 40
Our weakest position by far in 2013, was the WR position. We will undoubtedly address this in free agency, but more help will be needed. There is a lot of hype surrounding Watkins, Evans and Lee, but Drew and I believe it is Odell that we should grab at 18. Watkins and Evans will most likely be gone by our pick, which leaves Cooks, Lee, and Odell as 1st round talents. All 3 are huge playmakers, but they have their differences. Lee has the worst hands in the draft, and I don't like the idea of drafting a WR in the 1st with hands problems. Cooks is very reliable, and elusive, but isn't the downfield threat that Odell is. Beckham can be the deep threat that we desperately need. We were all hoping this would be Hill, but that was not to be.
Round 2
C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
6'7" - 265 ILBs - 4.65 40
Next to WR, TE is our next biggest need on offense. Both Winslow and Cumberland are free agents. I don't think either should be brought back. This will leave two spots wide open for the taking. Like WR, I believe we will pick up a starter in free agency. This doesn't mean can't go TE again with a top pick. Fiedorowicz is a prospect that will start getting a lot more attention. You won't look at his numbers and see a second round pick, but you wouldn't be getting the full picture. Not only is C.J. a physical freak, but he is very reliable when called upon. At Iowa, he was predominately a blocker, but did not disappoint when asked to be a receiver. For a guy of his size, he sure can move it, and get open. Right now, C.J. is probably a 3rd round, 2nd round tweener, but that could change next week. If he has a decent Senior Bowl as a receiver, his stock is sure to rise.
Round 3
Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State
6'1" - 215 ILBs - 4.56 40
On the defensive side of the ball, we hurting most in our secondary. There are so many ways we can go when it comes to our safeties. I really liked Antonio Allen coming out of college, and he has been steadily getting better. Bush's development has been a little slower. Dawan Landry is not a long-term option. Actually, he isn't really a good current option either. Ed Reed had some flash plays, but he is really only an option in 3 safety sets. The free agent field looks like it will be flush with decent safety talent. There are also some great draft prospects if we choose to go that rout. Bucannon has a great size/speed combination. If you are looking for a ballhawk with some serious tackling skills, Bucannon is your man.
Round 3
Marcus Smith, DE/OLB, Louisville
6'3" - 252 ILBs - 4.68 40
Our front 7 is already one of the best in the NFL, and it will only continue to get better. I think Pace should be brought back at the right price. Even if we do bring Pace back, he isn't a long-term option to be across from Coples. Marcus Smith is a versatile prospect, that has sort of gone under the radar. Smith is very quick off the line, and has some natural pass rushing ability. Even when Smith, isn't hitting home, he is being very disruptive. Marcus is also capable of standing up, and dropping into coverage. He finished the year with 14.5 sacks, 19 TFL, 12 QB hurries and 4 forced fumbles.
Round 4
Ryan Groy, G, Wisconsin
6'5" - 320 LBs - 5.06 40
One thing that will surly help improve our o-line next year is continuity. I believe both Willie Colon, and Austin Howard should be brought back.Colon should come cheap, but isn't a guarantee with his age, and injury history. On the left side, Winters was the biggest liability on our line. He was only a rookie, so he can still improve. I don't want to put all my eggs into either basket. Groy has been a guard prospect that has gone unnoticed all year. Ryan has been dominant all year long and is on no one's radar. For examples of his dominance, you can see him giving guys the business against Arizona State, Michigan State, and in the Shrine Game. Groy's presence will sure up the left side of our line in both pass protection, but specifically in the running game.
Round 5
Dri Archer, WR/RB, Kent State
5'7" - 175 ILBs - 4.40 40
Mike Goodson and his future with the Jets is very much up in the air right now. With Ivory and Powell plowing the way, Goodson's speed and playmaking ability would have been a great change of pace. For the short time he was with us, his ability was clear. If he does not return, we should absolutely look elsewhere for this rushing/receiving threat. Dexter McCluster is a free agent, but if we would rather go a cheeper rout, Dri Archer is an option. Dri is an undersized playmaker that is always a threat to take it to the house. You can see Scott's write up on him here Dri Archer
T.J. Jones, WR, Notre Dame
6'0" - 195 ILBs - 4.45 40
As mentioned before, WR is our biggest need on offense. We really can't have enough depth in this area. With the history of injuries to our receivers, bulking up in this area would be the smart move. Jones has been a reliable receiver for Notre Dame. With Eifert leaving for the NFL, Jones was asked to step up, and he did a very good job. He would make a great backup to Kerley in the slot. Since there is so much depth at WR, a guy like Jones can drop this far or further. T.J. finished the year 1108 rec yards, 9 rec TDs, 67 rush yards, 2 rushing TDs.
Round 7
James Morris, OLB/ILB, Iowa
6'2" - 230 ILBs - 4.63 40
James Morris is my sleeper LBer for this draft. This guy seems to always be around the ball. He has dominated for Iowa in both pass rushing, and coverage skills. He finished the year with 7 sacks, 18 TFLs, 4 INTs, 2 forced fumbles and 106 tackles. We can always use more depth at LBer. Mauga, McIntyre and Bellore are all free agents. The loss of all these depth guys will need to be replaced. Morris should be able to fill this role brilliantly.
