Clinton-Dix has always been a highly rated prospect. Coming out of high school he was a 5* prospect with Scout.com and was rated as the #1 safety in the country. Alabama is also seen as a program that produces good safety talent. In recent years you can look at Mark Barron who is playing his football as a starter in Tampa Bay, despite their struggles he has always looked decent to me. Robert Lester only started a handful of games for Carolina this year, but he showed his ball hawking skills with 3 interceptions in four starts. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix could be the next player to join the recent success, and whoever takes him will be doing so with a first round selection.
Projected 40: 4.45-4.60

If you just focus on the statistics, you're probably not going to be that impressed. However Ha-Ha Clinton Dix is a very fluid athlete who changes direction very easily without losing any speed. Always keeps his eyes on the Quarterback and gets a great jump on the ball. Had 6 interceptions in three years but he should have had so many more. Does have soft hands but had opportunities to increase that number. Is much better playing as a centre field ball-hawk but flashes great instincts at the line to play the run. Is a sound tackler and won't often see players running through his arm tackles. However the most impressive thing about Clinton-Dix is his fluidity, I love watching safeties who can turn and run with anyone and who can beckpedal and then transition without losing momentum. That's why people love this safety.
If you want a prospect to come steaming in and hammer a receiver like Elam, then you are going to be disappointed, he's not that kind of player. He needs to add a little more strength, as at the next level I fear that receivers and tight ends will be able to box him out too easily. Can sometimes get tangled with receivers and that could cause some flags to fly. Does struggle to get off blocks at time when playing centre field and the running game gets to that level.
I like Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, but do I like the fact that it is going to take a 1st round pick to grab him? no. He did get suspended this year for breaking team rules, and that worries me as well. There are other safeties that I like in this draft. I do like the coverage ability of Dix, and the fluidity but right now I'm not ready to part with our first round selection for a safety when I don't see him as head and shoulders above the talent that will be available in the 2nd, or 3rd round.
Would I Draft Him For The Jets
I think there is little doubt that Ha-Ha Clinton Dix will be a first round selection come draft time. So no I wouldn't select him for the Jets. We do need a safety and it is a position that has been largely ignored at the top end of the draft, but I don't think you can take defensive talent in the first round this year. Offense, offense, offense. So I'll pass on Clinton-Dix.
