ESPN has come under fire lately for manufacturing news - for taking soundbites from their specialty programming, entering it into the blogosphere and radio networks, and covering it again and again as the newsday builds to prime time. Thing is, its ESPN doing the building. I was listening to ESPN on Sirius Satellite radio tonight and they literally took 20 minutes to talk about Rex Ryan going to his son's football game. At first, I was curious, but then I thought about it. This coach and his staff have stayed up to the wee hours of the morning since OTAs. The plan was in around who they were going to cut keep and Rex went to the game. A game to support his son. Not an MMA event, not a broadway show, but a game for his son. I work as an executive coach and have more than several clients who still kick themselves in the head for missing special moments with their children. You can NEVER get them back, and if your lucky they wont resent you in later years.
ESPN was making such a big deal about him not being around for these announcements. Anyone who has watched Hard Knocks or Invincible knows that the Head Coach's role in these cuts is minimal.
How the Jets struggles/current state of affairs is national news in the eyes of these producers is beyond me. ESPN has lost all credibility in my eyes. I will turn to the blogoshpere and the NFL channel for my news.
