Quinton Coples to Play Against Buffalo Bills

Jeff Zelevansky

Rex Ryan announced that Quinton Coples will make his season debut Sunday against the Bills.

Coples, now playing in his second season, has healed quickly in four weeks. Coach Rex Ryan maintained that he did not know how many snaps Coples will play as reserves will be rotated in and out of the lineup to combat Buffalo's up-tempo offensive approach.

Coples injured his ankle in the second preseason game.

Reading between the lines here, the second year defensive player might see limited snaps. He still presumably is getting back into football shape so it would probably be prudent to have him in on passing downs to try and get to the quarterback. A handful of plays is still better than not having him at all.

The interior pass rush seems promising, but the Jets could still use help off the edge. Hopefully Coples can provide that. If he can be the kind of explosive pass rusher the coaching staff seems to think he can be, this defense can go to the next level. Coples would also become a very dangerous chess piece who can move anywhere because we have seen that he can do the job in closer quarters.
