Brian Costello has an interesting nugget a couple of hours before kickoff.
With his ankle feeling better, expect the Jets to do more read option plays with Geno Smith tonight. #nyj— Brian Costello (@BrianCoz) September 12, 2013
I'm not sure how I feel about that. Everything I have seen from Geno suggests he has good mobility, but I get the feeling he is more of a guy who will take yardage if you give it to him as he did against the Bucs than a guy who can make something happen on his own. I think an effective read option package with the quarterback can help take pressure off Geno the passer by giving the team an extra way to move the ball. That would be a good thing. It also could make the conventional run game more effective. Defenders couldn't overpursue on a handoff out of fear of Geno pulling the ball himself and running with it. I'm not sure whether Geno can pull it off, though.
I guess we will find out soon enough.
