We all know at least one of them. Whether a random drunk at the bar, some guy you see at the gym, or even your best friend; every single Jet fan has endured the constant jabbing and annoyance of other fans. Unfortunately for me, that one person is my boss…
Every morning I come into work, and I know I’ll have at least one email with a link to some ridiculous article about the Jets.
Remember this one? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000221159/article/training-camp-welcome-to-the-jets-circus
We complain about Mheta and Cimini, but this was by far the WORST example of journalism I’ve ever seen.
And then there was the fourth preseason game. After Matt Simms played fairly well, I withstood 2 weeks worth of emails, phone calls, and constant cubicle drop-by’s, imploring that Simms should start because the rest of the team is garbage. I had to hold my tounge – this man is my boss after all – but countless times I would catch myself mid-sentence saying “you don’t know what you’re fuc-… I have to go back to my desk.” Luckily, he knows he’s pushing me to the edge, so he’s probably a little more lenient than other people in upper management.
But what really pissed me off was what I heard this morning on the radio. Multiple reports are coming out about how Schiano is somehow conspiring against Josh Freeman, unjustly taking away his captaincy. The report went on to say that Freeman was not allowed to call audibles at all during the game on Sunday, restricting him from changing the play when the defenses plan was obvious. So now the rest of the football watching public can breathe easy again and say “ahhh I knew the Jets couldn’t be good… you know, now that you mention it, I think I saw Josh try to audible and then Schiano scream at him saying NO!”
To hate the Jets and publicly criticize them is the new “Fad.” It’s cool to say the Jets suck. Sunday, the Jets took that away from everyone. People were still able to mock the Jets, but it didn’t’ have the same force it had in the offseason. This report came out this morning to re-establish the faith that was lost Sunday. The faith that the Jets suck. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s true and Schiano truly has zero trust in his quarterback… but after hearing everything that came out this offseason that had absolutely no credibility, I just don’t believe it.
And so, it comes to the Patriots game under the bright lights of Thursday night. Now, I’m not insane. I will not say that the Jets will most likely win tonight. But I will say that if there is a time, the time is now. Though it didn’t end the way I would have liked, the Sanchez era is over and the Green and White are on to the next quarterback of the future. The Pats are down and ripe for an upset. Words cannot express what I will feel if the Jets pull out the W tonight. Not to shove it in everyone’s face, not to mock all of those that mocked the Jets, but only to demand the respect we deserve among the National Footbal League!
