A season like this it is all about upside and the unknown has more upside than the average. This is a year to take chances on players. Some are going to play themselves out of the league, but the Jets will find a diamond in the rough, maybe two. Three would set them up for a few years. This is the year to find the Jet's Victor Cruz. So going with higher risk players like Spadola and Vidal will be far more appealing. Don't sleep on Chad Spann. He has tools. Bohanon is a no brainer, all upside. Brian Winters? Upside baby.
Dump McNight, we know who he is. Dump Sanchez, we know who he is. Don't get me wrong, you need stopgaps. If you need a stopgap for Geno, then give McElroy the ball for a few weeks.
A guy like Pace is a stopgap. Peterman is a stopgap. Lex Hilliard is a stopgap. No one wants the stopgap to win the job, not the fans, not the team. Sheldon Richardson already beat out his stopgap (and his haircuts). That is evidence that the Jets share the same philosophy. But the young guys need to go out there and take it. Take it.
