Gang Green predictions Thread

I do it, you do it, we all do it. Humans like to predict things. Weather, traffic, movie endings, sports... all of which we try to predict. So, on the eve of the second round of preseason games, with regular season NFL football coming in less than a month(!!!), let's make some predictions about our favorite (and sometimes least favorite) NFL team, the New York Titan Jets.

Who's our Week 1 QB (not necessarily who you want, objectively, who's it going to be)?

How many starts does Geno Smith make?

Who wins the safety competition?

Chris Ivory- predict his stats. Does he go for over 200 carries?

Who leads the Jets in receiving yards this season? How many?

Who leads the Jets in sacks this year? How many?

Where do the Jets rank offensively in yardage this season? Scoring?

Where do the Jets rank defensively in yardage this season? Scoring?

2013 Jets Offensive Player of the Year?

2013 Jets Defensive Player of the Year?

2013 Jets overall MVP/best player?

Name the Jets Pro Bowlers.

Do the Jets make the playoffs?

Does Rex Ryan make it to 2014 as the head coach?

Jets final regular season record in 2013- and, if you feel froggy, a game by game prediction of the Jets schedule.

Here are mine:

Who's our Week 1 QB (not necessarily who you want, objectively, who's it going to be)?

Unfortunately, I believe Sanchez is the Week 1 starter.

How many starts does Geno Smith make?

I'm going to say Geno makes 10 starts this year.

Who wins the safety competition?

Rex seems to like Jarrett, so he starts next to Landry. Fluid throughout the season.

Chris Ivory- predict his stats. Does he go for over 200 carries?

I predict 207 carries, 973 yards, 7 TDs, with 22 catches for 196 yards. Playing 14 games.

Who leads the Jets in receiving yards this season? How many?

Jeremy Kerley, 904 yards, 4 TDs.

Who leads the Jets in sacks this year? How many?

Antwan Barnes, 8.

Where do the Jets rank offensively in yardage this season? Scoring?

Yardage: 26 Scoring: 25

Where do the Jets rank defensively in yardage this season? Scoring?

Yardage: 9 Scoring: 14

2013 Jets Offensive Player of the Year?

Chris Ivory, with the aforementioned stats

2013 Jets Defensive Player of the Year?

Mo Wilkerson

2013 Jets overall MVP/best player?

Mo Wilkerson, IMO, the best player on the roster and will show so

Name the Jets Pro Bowlers

Nick Mangold, Muhammad Wilkerson

Do the Jets make the playoffs?

No

Does Rex Ryan make it to 2014 as the head coach?

No

Jets final regular season record in 2013- and, if you feel froggy, a game by game prediction of the Jets schedule.

Jets finish 5-11

Week 1 vs. Tampa: LOSS

Josh Freeman struggles vs. Jets blitzes, but the combination of Doug Martin and a suddenly stingy defense wins a low scoring tilt.

Week 2 @ New England: LOSS

I doubt Gronk will be back by then, and it's early, which means this is the best time to get them. But, I think the run game and Brady's efficiency provides enough that the Jets cannot keep up.

Week 3 vs. Buffalo: WIN

In avoiding the season from slipping away early, the Jets D contains the short passing game and frustrates EJ Manuel into multiple mistakes. Bills overrated D gets run over by Ivory and whoever Ivory's backup is.

Week 4 @ Tennessee: LOSS

The Titans rebuilt interior OL, with 2 potential Pro Bowl players in Levitre and Warmack, makes their mark while springing Chris Johnson to a big game. Shonn Greene, though, still sucks.

Week 5 @ Atlanta: LOSS

I hope Milliner is starting, because the idea of Kyle Wilson having to take on Julio or Roddy White is frightening. Jets give a valiant, "closer than the experts think" effort, but still fall short. At 1-4, the team is coming apart at the seams.

Week 6 vs. Pittsburgh: WIN

The Jets momentarily breathe life into their season with a big win at home against a Pittsburgh team that, well, I have absolutely no feel for right now. The pass rush gets some good shots on Ben, who has a "bad Ben" day.

Week 7 vs. New England: LOSS

Brady, even more comfortable now, and possibly with the return of Gronk, and with Belichick's history in second games vs. Rex, and riding a high off of the Steelers win, this one is possibly a blow out.

Week 8 @ Cincinnati: LOSS

The Jets I think present a good matchup for Cincy, since they can maybe contain AJ Green and limit the rest of the WRs, but the Bengals are still an all-around better team with a better defense. As an aside- Geno Atkins vs. Mangold/interior OL worth the price of admission.

Week 9 vs. Saints: LOSS

The season nearly dead at this point, and 9 weeks of straight football before the bye, the Jets are ragged as they take the field, and Brees puts it up. However, we see very good offensive production, something like 27 points, but it's not enough.

Week 11 @ Bills: LOSS

This team under Rex generally hasn't played that well off the bye week, the game is in Buffalo, and CJ Spiller is starting to ramp up his Pro Bowl bid.

Week 12 @ Baltimore: LOSS

If this game was earlier, and in NY, I think the Jets have a good shot at it, but I think Baltimore's D has gelled by this point and that's enough to get it done. Rex is on the verge of being a late season casualty.

Week 13 vs. Dolphins: WIN

Against the hyped Dolphins, the Jets have some pride in themselves and get up for this game. The chilly air at Metlife bothers Tannehill and their weapons, and the Jets win in a somewhat substantial fashion.

Week 14 vs. Raiders: WIN

The Raiders suck. Don't know if they are going back to Oakland from Dallas (where they are the week prior) then to NY (which would be a bad idea), but either way, the Jets should win this one. With these 2 straight wins, Rex ensures he's here for the rest of the year.

Week 15 @ Carolina: LOSS

The Panthers should be improved against the run with their DL investments, and Camolina generally plays very well to end the year after they stunk to start it, and play themselves out of a top pick.

Week 16 vs. Browns: WIN

Not a moment too soon to avoid Jadeveon Clowney, Santonio Holmes (who reappeared as a pretty ineffective player around week 8) nails an audition for his upcoming free agency (coming after the Jets cut him) with somewhere around 130 yards and 2 TDs.

Week 17 @ Dolphins: LOSS

At home, with a playoff spot in reach (a win + help gets them in), the Dolphins defeat a Jets team that, by the second quarter, is already planning their night on the town in Miami. The Dolphins don't get the help they need, though, and look like the prettiest loser outside of the playoffs.

The 2014 Jets pick #5 in the draft seeking WR, a better edge pass rusher, a running back, safety, inside linebacker after Harris and Davis disappoint, tight end, and a right tackle. Geno shows off enough that the team is moving forward with him, but his rookie year is hardly grand. In Idzik's continued movement towards youth, Sanchez, Holmes, Cromartie, and Harris are all given their walking papers, clearing 31 million in cap space. Rex is terminated on Black Monday, along with Mornhinweg who disappoints the fan base with baffling situational play calling and unfulfilled expectations. Brighter days are ahead, however, with cap room to make good moves and a smarter GM at the helm.
