After the media crowded around Geno Smith expecting to garner something to sell, they quickly dispersed. Why? Because the diva, the immature little brat that dared fire his agents did not show up. Geno was there, but only Geno. He did what all New Yorkers have long learned, Dont give into their games. He told them that it did not mattered, that the gossip and name calling was irrelevant. To him all that mattered was his job, regardless of expectations or detraction.
We are not going to see anyone apologize for their lack of professionalism. Jason Cole, Cimini, and the rest of the brainless vultures will not say another word on the matter. The cameras and microphones exited the facilities without as much as a response to Geno's masterful Q and A. Perhaps a sigh of disappointment and nothing else. The circus left town, now all that remains is a football club. They will have to work to find a story. That will be something new for them.
On Geno Smith's responses, he did not say anything but was expected of a rookie. That was what made it a masterpiece of interviewing. He reminded the media that they are nothing but a conduit of information. That WE the public pay THEM to find out what is going on. Not to invent stories that do not even matter. He does not need them to build his reputation yet, he does not care to hear what they have to say. He will let his work speak for him. And that is something they media cannot twist and mold into something that it is not. Where is the hate now? Maybe watching a certain linebacker from Arizona self destruct and not saying a word.
Welcome to The NY Jets Geno, even if you never become anything but a middling QB, you will always have a place in my heart for shutting up the haters.
