By Idzik i mean safe. He cannot miss on any picks in the first 3 rounds. One miss early sets this team back even more. This team has many holes and is arguably the least talented team in football. Everyone has their own opinion on who to the Jets should draft and why, but here Im going with the, so called "safe picks." I heard on the radio today, Ray Lucas was ranting about the pick of Coples and how they used him this year. He said that the Jets drafted him as a pass rusher but didnt use him as such. Therefore Im not going to take a pass rusher in the first round.
Round 1-9th pick- Chance Warmack, G, Alabama (or Cooper if they like him better)
With a hole at G with both Moore and Slauson gone, this pick makes perfect sense for the Jets. MAny consider Warmack as the best player in the draft. Games are won in the trenches and this is a great way to start rebuilding that O-Line that has diminished a lot.
Round 1-13th pick- Tavon Austin, WR, West Virgina
This is not the "safest" pick in the world, but he can score from anywhere on the field. In the WCO, getting him the ball quick will be fun to watch. ( Also considered Eifert, because he would be a safety blanket for any QB).
Round 2- Pick 39- DJ Hayden, CB, Houston
If not for his insane injury last year, he could easily be the best CB in the draft. He runs a 4.3 and excels in press coverage. With this pick we can put Wilson back in the slot. ( SInce theres a good chance hes gone I also considered- S- Elam and Reid, TE- Ertz and RB- Franklin)
Round 3- Pick 72- Gavin Escobar
Still in need of a TE, Escobar is a great fit. He is a good receiving TE and would be reliable for our QB. (also considered- TE Kelce,Reed, OLB/DE Okafor[if there] , S- Rambo, DT- Jenkins)
Round 4- Pick 106- QB, Zac Dysert, Miami (OH)
Dysert could be the sleeper of the draft. QB being a major need, Idzik takes a flyer on Dysert. (Considered- Bray, Glennon, Scott. LB Hollman, Rb Gillsee)
Round 5- Pick 141- Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU
Once considered a first or second rounder, his stock has fallen. I doubt he lasts this long but ive seen it on the internet (so it must be true right?). (also looked at zac stacy, Kenjon Barner, Tj Mcdonald)
Round 6-Pick 178- Stephan Taylor, RB, Stanford
We can use an RB and hes a good value if still available
Round 7- Pick 215- Jordan Rodgers, QB, Vanderbilt
Overall I think this draft fills needs and doesnt have a lot of risk (minus Dysert, but 4th round is worth a flyer)
