The Jets Scouting Dept. and the 2013 Draft: Reason For Optimism?

A lot has been made of the lack of success when it comes to the Jets' scouting department in recent years. Many fans have little to no faith in the current staff (who can blame them) and wanted Idzik to clean house when he was hired. But considering how close it was to the draft this was probably not feasible. There have been a few changes to the department, however, since the last draft. The most significant being VP of College Scouting Joey Clinkscales is gone, replaced by in house staff member Jeff Bauer shortly after the 2012 draft. Kevin Kelly was also added to the operation. Here is the arcticle from newyorkjets.com. Do these changes mean anything? I don't know. I can't attribute a specific pick to either Clinkscales or Bauer to say either has a history of hitting or missing on guys. As far as Kevin Kelly, the drafts during his time with the Colts (2009-2011) seem unexceptional. But again who knows what his role and influence were. So what's the point to all this? Only that there has been some change beyond the hiring of Idzik, however minor yet hopefully for the better, and there is at least some reason to believe things may be a little different. I'm hoping the biggest change is that the calm demeanor, calculated and competitive mindset and thoroughness Idzik has thus far brought to the table gets spread throughout the front office. We'll find out soon enough. In the words of Bart Scott, "Can't wait!".
