Schedules are being released tomorrow and we get to see the road the Jets have to travel to the Super Bowl (or the #1 pick...). But if you could make the schedule for the Jets and make it the best possible schedule for the Jets, how would it look?
Our opponents are:
Home: NE, Buffalo, Miami, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, NO, Oakland, Pittsburgh
Away: NE, Buffalo, Miami, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Atlanta, Carolina, Tennessee
Do it assuming one MNF game and one Thursday game (not T-Day). Try to balance it some (i.e. don't have 4 straight road games). Also note that Week 17 must be a divisional game as has been the NFL schedule mandate since 2010, and there is no MNF on Week 17.
Mine would be this:
Week 1: vs Oakland- Nice, easy game to start the year at home against a bad West Coast opponent
Week 2: @ Buffalo- travel there early while the weather is nice
Week 3: @ New England- not too long of a trip from Buffalo to home to NE, and want to face them early
Week 4: vs. Cleveland- Weaker team coming off tough New England game
Week 5: @ Tennessee- Who knows what they'll be, but not a bad game
Week 6: @ Miami- First look at Mike Wallace and Co. pretty early, get them in Miami because I want them in NY later.
Week 7: vs. Pittsburgh- have to play them eventually, but perhaps if on a roll the Jets can ride a wave
Week 8: Bye
Week 9: @ Atlanta (TNF)- While not having full two weeks off with bye week, it means we won't have a short week for a TNF game. Maybe the toughest team on our schedule, Atlanta, will.
Week 10: vs. New Orleans- The long week works on the other side, too, with an extra 3 days to prepare for the Saints.
Week 11: vs. Tampa Bay- Take on a bit of a softer, slower team after having to chase Atlanta and New Orleans around.
Week 12: @ Cincinnati- Perhaps by now Cincinnati has hit some kind of a swoon. Or maybe not. They look like they could be pretty legit.
Week 13: vs. New England (MNF)- Still would like to take on these bastards on Prime Time. Perhaps the Jets will get up for the home fans on National TV. Didn't work on Thanksgiving last year but hey.
Week 14: @ Baltimore- There's no real good place to stick this one, but if heaven forbid the playoffs are in sight, Rex may not curl into a fetal ball at the sight of the purple uniforms.
Week 15: vs. Buffalo- This late in the year, it might be snowy and cold. Buffalo is usually fading by now.
Week 16: @ Carolina- Unfortunately this isn't a home game where the snow might slow down Newton, but on the flipside he might not be as tough to tackle if it's not freezing.
Week 17: vs. Miami- If our lucky stars have aligned and this game could mean the playoffs, then I would love to take out Miami in front of our fans. If it's meaningless, I would still love to take out Miami in front of our fans.
